Hey Grandpa, What's for Supper? Part 2

Oh! Let us know how they turn out. I have never made them either. Yummy!

Well, here's one of the better looking ones.

They are a bit more buttery than I'd like but they taste really good! I think they needed a tad more flour so that they'd hold their shape better and not be quite as buttery. I used the recipe from the Julia Child book, "Baking with Julia."

This recipe is a tad different than the one that I made from her cookbook, but since the source is also Julia Child and since mine could have been a bit less buttery, perhaps this will be even better. The good thing about this one is that it comes with pictures to explain the process. It's not that they're hard to make - they aren't - but it is a bit of a fussy process. If you make these, please report back and let us know how they turned out for you. If they're as good as these ones look, they should be delicious!

The chief difference between this one and the book version is that this one contains regular yeast whereas the book recipe had compressed fresh yeast, which I didn't have. So, I attempted to adjust the recipe and I suspect that's where I went wrong. In the process, I added a bit more milk than the recipe called for so that may also be the problem with my recipe. It didn't come together as quickly in the KitchenAid and just when I was warning the dough that I was about to toss it out and start over, it suddenly started looking like it was supposed to look.

Another good thing about this recipe is that it's supposed to make fewer croissants. I think I have enough dough to last me through the rest of the year!

Thank you so much...I'm going to give this recipe a try today. We had grilled sirloin steaks for supper last night and I grilled two so we would have leftovers. I'm planning to slice the leftover steak into thin slices and make cheese steak type sandwiches using these rolls. I'll let you know how they turned out.

To celebrate my son's 15th birthday, he's requested Chinese Chicken Salad for dinner. We'll have some sourdough bread with that. Dessert will be another requested item: "Apricot Pudding" which is really a dump cake of sorts. It's served warm, so vanilla ice-cream is a natural accompaniment.

His choices for dinner sound good. I love any pudding type dessert.

Had 4 ripe bananas so made of Banana Cream Pie. I wish my husband liked coconut since that would be a great topping but he does not. I think I just put some on my piece after I cut it.

Tonight grilled salmon on a cedar plank with roasted vegetables.
