Hey Grandpa, What's for Supper? Part 2

Happy Anniversary, chickabator!! What a sweetheart of you to make your hubby his favorite meal, especially when you don't like it yourself. I hope he appreciates how lucky he is!

Last night I made pork chops, seasoned rice, baby peas, and broccoli slaw. I'm not cooking tonight. Hubby will pick something up on his way home from work. At least two of us are in the mood for Mexican food.

I was busy today, so I'm going to doctor up a frozen pepperoni pizza, with green peppers, onions, green olives, and a ton of pepper jack cheese....it works in a pinch.

bigzio, nothin' wrong with doctored up pizza. Yours sounds wondrfull. We do it all the time.
I was right. Stepson did not stay for dinner last night!

I guess he found someplace where dinner was easier than him taking a slice of pizza out of a cardboard box, putting it on a plate and nuking it

I was making jam this afternoon, so I pulled out the crockpot. It can simmer on the dining room table, while I cook in the kitchen.
I'm trying to make room in the freezer for this years crops.
So I went scrounging. I found some skinless slightly freezerburned chicken breasts, a container of summer squash and wild turkey broth. I put them all in the crockpot and added: a bunch of chopped fresh parley, chopped celery, a lot of garlic (it too needs to be used up, since this years crop is nearly ready), chopped carrots and sauteed onions and a bit of fresh thyme. Put the crockpot on high and let it go all afternoon. Everything smells wonderfull. I took the cooked chicken out and chopped it up a bit. I'll season it in a little while. Don't know if I'll thicken it or leave it as is. I figure I'll serve it with pasta wether it'll be stew or a thick soup. I thought peas might be nice in it and remembered that I still had some snow peas left and tossed them in too. We have some french bread from a couple of nights ago that I'll heat up to go with it.
Desert in our house is seldom planned, unless it is the main course. Or part of balancing the meal. I.e. If there are minimal vegetables in the main course, I'll make sure there is fruit for desert.

Yesterday we got 2 whole beef back from the meat processors. (We sell beef.)

Tonight I made Meatballs In Cream Sauce with Fresh Garden Peas. A fresh Lettuce Leaf Salad from 3 lettuce varieties we have in the garden and homemade Artisan Rye Bread.

Oh my...everything was 'to die for' and we're absolutely stuffed.

Really pleased with how the beef turned out.

I agree with doctoring up a frozen pizza. I haven't had any in the freezer for a while, but once in a while there is a great sale on them. With a teen in the house it makes a cheap and easy snack he can do himself. However if it does end up being lunch or supper for the family I add whatever I have!

Kim that recipe sounds divine! I plan on making it this week. We are down to a few pork-chops and lots of burger. My husband hunts so we have have a years supply of deer burger. So even when we are "out" of groceries we always have burger, so I am always looking for new ways to serve it!

Today it is snowing! So I feel like comfort food. I took out some pork chops but I am not sure what I am going to do with them just yet.

Have a happy Sunday everyone!!

thechickenchick, please don't say that word. I'm glad that white stuff falling from the sky is behind us here......at least for a few months.

We are having pork chops, too. DH is cooking them on the grill and we'll have baked potatoes, pickled beets, wax beans and an orange jello for something sweet.

Kim, I don't think there's anything better than raising your own beef. It's the best. Your meatball recipe sure sounds good.

Hope you enjoy the meatball recipe, Thechickenchick.
You're so right, Prairiegirl.....farm-raised beef is the best! I cooked some soup bones and canned the meat/broth today. When cleaning the bones, we tasted the meat - it had the flavor of a good pot roast!

Tonight's supper was grilled pork ribs, corn on the cob, homemade applesauce, pinto beans and we finished the artisan rye loaf.

Hope everyone had a great Sunday!
