Hey Grandpa, What's for Supper? Part 2

To answer my own question . . .
At our table, that dish that is a "must have" is a typical yam/pineapple with marshmallow dish. In my family, it was my dad who prepared the TG dinner each year. I'd help him with many parts of the meal from the time I was little, so I became fairly comfortable in the kitchen at an early age. I was probably in middle school or thereabouts and came across a recipe for yams with pineapple, pecans, a brown sugar/spice mixture and topped with marshmallows. I really wanted to try making it so my folks bought the ingredients and let me go to town on it. It has been many years since it was first made, but the family just has to have it each year. I like to experiment in the kitchen and try new things, so one year I made a different yam dish and boy did I hear the complaints through the entire meal that I made the "wrong" yams.
So, now when I want to experiment with yams again, I have to make TWO yam dishes for supper. Lesson learned.

I don't think that's meddling if you talk to your friends, especially if you do so privately and then let your son approach them once you've gotten an OK from them. Once he gets the job, HE is the one who has to do it, not you, right?
My DS will probably not work this summer, although there are places that will hire him at his age. More likely, he'll take chemistry this summer so that he can open another period next year for the extra band. He really enjoys science and hopes to take 4 years of it before graduation. That just can't happen unless at least one of them is a summer school class since he has to begin his foreign language next school year and will have to balance the 3 bands again. Whew! That should free him up to work the next summer, which he plans to do. Will your son participate in football again next year?
Dinner tonight - thin cut pork chops rubbed with sage and thyme, home made apple sauce, brown and wild rice, and green beans. Bread pudding with whiskey sauce for dessert.

my Dad used to cook a lot when we were growing up. I snagged his recipe box when we were cleaning out their house, shortly before he died. Last night I made his chuckwagon beans, and we had cornbread, too. Made me feel closer to my parents, what with the Holidays approaching. Nice memories.
just had to share the white chicken chili i made. I remembered seeing a recipe but couldnt find it so I improvised. 1 cooked chicken breast shredded, 1 lg can white northern beans, 1/2 pd loose sausage crumbled and cooked, 1 small can creamed corn, 1 small can chicken broth, onion, salt, pepper, 1 tsp chili powder, 1 tsp minced garlic, parsley. Add all cans juice and all and other ingredients and bring to a simmer for about 10 minutes. I served with a dollop of sour cream in the bowl. Very good. I had a can of diced green chilies to add but my oldest didnt want me to. It was so good I ate way too much.

I made turkey noodle soup last night with the carcass of the turkey. It was good but a bit too rich. That's the last of our leftovers, I should've gotten a bigger turkey.
That'll be our supper tomorrow night, chicknmania.
We needed a turkey break so tonight will be crusted tilapia with homemade tartar sauce, a couple of veggies, and maybe a starch of some kind (or not). I'll see what I'm in the mood for as dinner is closer.

Open-face turkey sandwiches. It was just the three of us this year, but we got a 20lb fresh turkey! We love leftovers!!
