Salad is what I ended up serving with my red beans, rice, and sausage. Like I said, I didn't want to run back out to the store. Besides, we ate the first red tomato from our garden! But, the next time I make this, I'll try out some of the other options.

Wow! 75 lbs is a LOT of tomatoes! I imagine you'll be doing some canning tomorrow!

I did homemade pizza tonight, and I roasted some chicken breast to go in the sauce...BUT the cheese was so darn good this time, I wound up wishing I'd not wasted the chicken, and just featured the flavor of the cheese with a pizza margherita. MAN, it was good. I think I also like baking the crust for 5 minutes first, before adding the other ingredients. It held up really well. Plus, my daughter enjoyed stabbing it with a fork before it went in the oven.

I love the sound of Cicada!!! I also loved catching them and tying strings on their butts ..haha!

The frogs would die a quick death ...I don't know how... I'd figure out something ....that would make me physically ILL ..instant migraine! How do you do it? Do the ninjapoodles eat 'em? Please say they do!!

The pizza sounds FANTASTIC!! I pride my little self on my homemade crusts and creative toppings, but I've yet to try making my own Mozzarella. Is your recipe somewheres amongst these 170+ pages? I'd love to try it!

...but wait! I don't need to sneak a cow in here, do I?

Yeah, a cow would be great. *siiiigh* If you look in the "index" thread, Miss Prissy posted the mozzarella recipe, under "cheese," that is the one pretty much everyone uses. There is a more complex method for raw milk, but the "quick" recipe produces amazing results. The easiest thing is to just get Ricki's Cheesemaking Kit , which has everything you need (aside from the milk and a big ol' pot and strainer), including thorough instructions, to make Mozzarrella or Ricotta 30 times! The kit includes rennet tablets, citric acid, butter muslin, a dairy thermometer, cheese salt, and an instruction and recipe brochure. It saves you a little bit of money to buy them all together (but of course there is a shipping charge).

You go from a gallon of milk to this in a matter of MINUTES.

Do it! It's EASY! (If it weren't, I couldn't do it!)

SHUT UP, FROGS!!!!!

Too funny!!! I guess since I've lived in the country my whole life, I don't even notice them unless I deliberately tune them IN!!!

Tonight is take-out of some type. I'm in a grouchy mood, irritable at the world (DH mostly), and I'm NOT cooking tonight! So there!

<snort> I can't get over the frogs!!! I sure needed the laugh!!!

Ohhhh - I really don't like you people. You talk about making bread and homemade pizza and homemade cheese and you show off your oh-so-pretty pictures and it just makes me --- jealous! I used to make my own bread and homemade pizza and jams and other stuff, but now I'm working part-time and it seems like I drive the kid around the rest of the time so I don't have time to do those things anymore. GRRRR. Okay, I really DO like y'all and all your wonderful food ideas. DS is just going to have to hurry up and get his driver's license so he can drive his own sorry fanny all over the place and give me time to spend time in the kitchen. Tonight - hubby called and they had pizza at lunch for some meeting and had a bunch left over, so he grabbed it and that's dinner (he told me "don't say I never make dinner"

). I'll add a salad and we're done. DS is off to band practice, so it will be a nice quiet evening. Now if the smoke would just clear, everything would be wonderful.
Have a great evening and keep those yummy recipes coming!

Just a suggestion....

with homemade mozzarella, flatten the cheese into a rectangle as best as possible, layer with fresh basil, tomatoes, pepperoni, whatever.... roll into a log, slice and serve as an ap or as part of a light lunch or dinner.

yuummmm!

I felt the SAME way today. I asked my husband, "Since I cooked all week, can everyone just make their own sandwiches?" He said no. I said, "Let me rephrase that. Since I cooked all week, everyone can make their own sandwiches tonight." He said, "OK."

I've heard frogs all my life, but I've never had a koi pond right outside my window!

I know what you mean! We put in a pond and waterfall two years ago and there are nights when we can't even hear the waterfall or have to close the windows so we can hear each other or the TV! Who knew they could be so loud. And, what surprised me most of all was that it's not even the bullfrogs that make that racket; it's the little tiny tree frogs! I yell at them to shut up, too
