This could be a great basis for mille fleur couldn't it??

They look like they may work but I wouldn't want to breed out green legs and the other problems that come with starting with other breeds besides cochins....though they look all cochin, you never know what would pop up..

The mille fleurs are just so beautiful. I will plead and beg for eggs until somebody puts me out of my misery!

According to the KIP calculator..... breeding a Buff Columbian Roo to a Mottled Hen will produce offspring that when bred to each other have the possibility to produce Mille Fleur.

Now I just need me some nice Buff Columbian and Mottled Bantam Cochins

A buff columbian and a black mottled should produce the millies after going back with sibling crosses If Im not mistaken the buff columbian has the wheaton in it and those are the 3 key ingredients for the millies Hope you find some and it works But breed for type first as its a pain to get later Get the best you can

You know, everybody says buff columbian x mottled should get you mille fleur, but there was always something that bugged me about those three cochins that sold well on eggbid a ways back. I always wondered about the mottled buff columbian, and why she could be mottled buff columbian and not mille fleur. Not saying she is a bad bird, I'd have really loved to have added her to my flock, but I am just thinking there is more to the mille fleur mystery than mottled and buff and columbian mixed together in equal parts.

You get Black or mostly black offspring from the F1 mating, but the black offspring will carry the genes necessary to create Mille Fleur.... but it would take many breedings to get full Mille Fleur markings as some will just be partial or any other color combination just about

Hey Patty

With breeding new things there is always the problem of it not working right the first generation There will be throwbacks and offspring that dont look like what they should So you have to go to the inbreeding to set the color which may take longer than what was expected The mottled buff on eggbid was or is one of those that didnt turn out to what it should be Ralphs birds..some of those were buff and a mottled buff But look at some of his other birds They were fantastic But every now and then you get one thats just not quit right
