Hi all, I thought I’d share some pictures of one of my newest chicks, hatched right before Thanksgiving. It’s from my Millie’s. These aren’t very good pictures but you can get a pretty good idea of what it looks like anyway. Let me know what you guys think? I haven’t had one look like this so far? I’m excited to see how it turns out.

This one is a little too much flash.

I see three colors, so far so good! The only one i have hatched, my roo, was a dusty buff color when he was born, looked nothing like the down on that chick, really light. I suspect it will end up darker than you think. I think there is a lot of unexplained genetics with mille fleur, not so simple as everyone thinks... Please DO keep us updated with growing photos of that baby, if you would. I can hardly wait until my F1 babies start to lay.!

How do the parents of that chick look?

Yeah this little guy has started out really light. All of the others I've hatched this summer were peach colored with a little bit of partridge coloring on them as peeps. It's father has a lot of dark, he's the rooster on my Blog ( www.joshsbantams.com) and the mother is one of my Millie Buff crosses.

The other chicks I’ve hatched throughout this summer, which have developed color, started out almost all buff and colored out later. That’s why I’m so curious about this one. I have another chick that is similar to the one in those pictures but its entire wing has white lacing all the way around its feathers. I’ll try and take some pictures of it tomorrow.

Hi guys.

I thought I’d post a couple of updated pics of the Millie chick I posted awhile back. I took these pictures last weekend and I’m really excited about him. It’s hard to see in the pictures but he has a ton of white tipped black banded feathers coming in all over his wings and chest. Anyway, let me know what you think.

WOW, I thougt he might be an odd salmon color or something when he feathered out. It always amazes me what huge patches of white mismarks they have as chicks, then the moult out mostly solid colored. That is great he has white tipped black feathers all over.
The one F1 roo that I saved is black mottled with some funky yellowish feathers around his neck and a few on his shoulders. I don't care for the odd color feathers, but his type is out of this world! He is VERY typey and has a lot of mottling showing through already. I hope the yellow hackles doesn't ruin the mille in the next generation. I will try to get some pics tomorrow. Your guy looks terrific. Got any pics of his future girlfriends?

How old is he? My older birds never had such large solid patches, I don't think.

I think I've got some sort of sex-linking going on with my baby chicks. Two, which I think are roolets, have grey-based feathers. The other, which I think is a pullet, is ruddy. I haven't figured that out yet!

mine used to have big ol' patches of white, on his back, his side and a ton of white up his chest, but he lost most all of it. He just has a few stray white feathers now... I say wait till he is a year old to evaluate him. I think Ralph's birds as a whole have too much white, but a lot of it goes away after a few molts.

nzpouter, It's totally unfair. You guys have access to whole new world of cochin over there in New Zealand

Thanks for posting. They're some beautes.

Josh, I think his color is starting off ok. But, from what Patty is saying, he stands to improve plenty as he matures.

I have a dozen eggs in the bator from Lynne. They're on day 3. Im so pumped. Hubby already built the coop for them last fall in anticipation
