There are a couple of articles below in my signature that are worth the short read.
BYC has an APP
Aww, welcome to the chicken family! There's lots of good info floating around on the site. You'll be a chicken pro in no timeClearly, I'm new here. Instead of writing some long-winded introduction, as is my usual habit, let me spare everyone the boredom and use the template.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
YES! I rescued a leghorn (we think) about a month ago. She is currently living in our bathroom. It truly sucks having an indoor chicken.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Just one, but we are getting 3 more from a friend who has a bird rehab and sanctuary.
(3) What breeds do you have?
We are pretty sure she's a leghorn. We're getting 2 Rhode Island Red Crosses and at least 1 Aracauna.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Google.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, kayaking, over-functioning, ranting on Facebook. You know, the usual.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Let's see... We have two cats, Pearl and Tam Tam, and two bearded dragons, Grendel and Leonidas. All rescues. We live in Dallas and have been planning on getting chickens for awhile. Matilda, our baby girl, was abandoned in an alley during the worst part of the summer heat. She is such a treasure! I live with my boyfriend and his adult son lives with us. I am a former philosophy professor who (insanely) chose to go back to grad school and get a counseling degree. I am doing practicum now (like clinicals) and graduate in November. The population I chose to serve is the inmate population and released sex offenders. I can discuss it all day long, but that's probably not a good idea. Let's all be friends! and hold hands! and skip through the flowers! and definitely not talk about the U.S. justice system!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Google, of course. I've been lurking for awhile but now really do need some advice, so here I be! I am attaching a picture of our girl after I woke her up in the middle of the night. Man! she was maaaaaaaad!

Oh, I am DYING to have her outside! I scrub that bathroom and change her bath mats twice a day. It's exhausting!Aww, welcome to the chicken family! There's lots of good info floating around on the site. You'll be a chicken pro in no timeShe is such a beauty!! Hopefully you get her out of your bathroom quickly. Sometimes my girls run in the back door and poop in the hallway. Cures any fantasies of having cute indoor chickens lol.
