Have you tried putting a known to be correct separate thermometer inside the incubator and checking the temp that way instead?

So what do you do with This incubator when it is time for lock down? Just remove turner and lay eggs on the grill?

I usually use a separate hatcher but yes, you do it the same as any other. I recommend putting damp washcloths around the grill perimeter. It keeps chicks from falling through and helps with humidity. I've also just turned the turner off and let them hatch in the turner

Hi I have a HHD 52 incubator (holds 48). had it running with the temp set at 38.3 so my digital thermometer would read 37.5. Then after about 5 days the temp on my thermometer increased to high 38ish but the incubator stayed where I had it set. Any idea why the thermometer would be reading so much higher all of a sudden? I tested this thermometer against a medical grade digital and glass medical thermometer.
