Hello, brand new but have been reading on google for some time!!
1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We got our first 4 in feb this year and now have 12….. oops. Chicken maths is real and I may be considering the next set of girls for next year….

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

12 gorgeous hens, they’re all named and considered family pets

(3) What breeds do you have?
We think we have 4 warrens, 1 light Sussex, 1 silver Sussex and 1 speckled Sussex, an Araucana. Then 2 cream leg bars (hatched by a broody) and 2 “olive eggers” but these four haven’t yet started to lay.- so we will see.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Gardening, animals, reading and gaming. I love being outside.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
2 children who keep us busy with their differing needs, a dog, cat and four Cameroon sheep.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Been googling for months and always read the info here, but decided to actually join in!

Thanks all for such a lovely welcome…. I notice I managed to miss question 4!
We love the personalities of our girls, from the tiny Araucana’s attitude to our silver’s “resting witch face” (sub w for b when the kids aren’t near) who is definitely my spirit animal.
Obviously the eggs are amazing and although I was never convinced by the whole “can’t beat fresh eggs” argument- I really cannot imagine going back to shop eggs again!

The rabbit holes surrounding feed, bedding, medication are intense! But we generally hope to do our best for all our animals. And strive to learn more every day…. Although my girls do love their afternoon corn treat and knock the door to remind me.

I am currently avoiding the duck section, but we are keen to expand next year…. We’re in very rainy Wales (UK) and have a slug issue- not helped by the girls playing “frog rugby” daily, so think runners will be next.
And then is there a goat section…… :lau
