Hi from another Hoosier

I see I'm not the only Hoosier!

I just started raising my first round of chickens a couple weeks ago. It's something I've been wanting to do for awhile, finally dove in

We ordered from Murray McMurray on the advice of my friend (who's also my daughter's 4h leader and my neighbor!)- we got buff orpingtons and black giants for eggs and showing at the fair, one free exotic that looks like a white crested black polish, and 15 cornish roasters for meat. I am SHOCKED at how fast the meat birds are growing!!! All my knowledgeable chicken friends told me they grow at an astonishing rate, but wow!! They're easily three times the size of the egg birds already. I moved them out of their brooding cage into a huge box used for shipping watermelons or something (they LOVE it in there! So much more room for them).

from yet another Hoosier! Yeah, I've seen tons of new members from Indiana posting over the past few days...lol. Wow, you're brave starting off chickens with meat birds. You'll have to post your results come processing day.
