Hi!! from NC!!

Welcome to BackYardChickens! I have had RIR and Leghorns, and they were both great... my leghorn rooster was a monster! As big as a turkey, and mean as a wildcat... just not around me. I always had to go out every morning and boot him across the yard, or he would have had me sitting on a nest box with the hens. The Rhode Island Reds were very sweet of disposition, and the rooster wasn't too wild, but still a rooster.

Welcome! I live in NC as well, South Piedmont. And I am also new to chickens. We have 9 chicks all together although we started with 4, added 2, lost 1 and then added 6 and lost 1 more. It's been a roller coaster thus far!!

I think you will find these forums very helpful, I spend a good deal of my free time (what free time?!?) scrolling through old posts. In my opinion once you get everything settled (chicks bought, brooder set up, chicks healthy, coop built) its a lot easier than anticipated. I look forward to hearing updates on how things are going for you.....you should post pics of your coop, I still need ideas for mine! Good luck!
