Hey there I'm located between Concho and Snowflake. I built a cordwood style chicken coop it's got 12 - 14 in. Logs just stacked and mudded between. Then I deep litter with straw. I've got a gap around the top and a plywood roof. It stays amazingly warm throughout the winter. My 5 chickens, three dogs and I live off grid on 10 acres between Show Low and Concho, Az . We only have a generator at the moment , getting solar when I get it figured out .. Anyway I joined because I need help in keeping water from freezing and chickens from freezing to death . It is in single digits at night but so far so good . Do they huddle to keep warm or just puff up thier fearthers ? Any way Im glad I found this group .
Hello sure that name is taken, we are located in the Vernon area just outside of Show Low in about to buy our first chickens for our newly built chicken coop. We were hoping to find someone local or a group of people from the local area that could advise us on the do's and don'ts of having chickens in this part of Arizona at this high altitude with the extreme temperatures. Any feedback you can provide us would be greatly appreciated. My 5 chickens, three dogs and I live off grid on 10 acres between Show Low and Concho, Az .
