New to chickens I am, but in at the deep end. 4 older hens of maran descent, 2 elderly bluebelles(hybrids) sweet old ladies one with toes missing hobbles to the name of Peggy, Harriet is her sister, both lay regularly and huge eggs many double yolkers. they love to hang around and gossip with me or lay in the sun or dust bathe. Newer to the flock are 3 black rock layers, acquired from the local agent for black rocks uk, his layers after a year are sold off and are first class worth the £3.00 i paid each. Lay every day large eggs right through the moult too. 6 6 week young, 3 light Sussex and 1 Welsummer (darn I think he is a cockerel) and a little Belgian D'anver female, sweet natured but holds her own with her bigger siblings. In the brooder are2 faverolles and 1 buff orpington and in the hatchery 6 copper marans. In the deep end but loving it. Free ranging them all during the day locking them up at night.
It is a steep learning curve but loads of fun.
