Hi from way too sunny California!

Happy to have found this wonderful resource. I am so new I have no chickens! I have however been contemplating for a long time, and I have 5 chicks ordered, no males. Should be here around the 20th. I have always loved gardening, and now have got into more fruit trees than in the past. I am in the smoldering Coachella Valley, Palm Springs/Palm Desert area. I ordered chicks that supposedly are more heat tolerant than most but will still be be a challenge.We can easily have multiple 110 days for a while, and if there is any humidity it doesn't get below 90 overnight. Looking forward to going through the tons of valuable info available here. So far mostly looking for coop plans I can handle. Anyway happy to be here!

Lots of shade, cool water and maybe some misters would be a good idea, multiple days of 110 seems optimistic Ive seen multiple days of 115 120 down there!

Hi Gary,
Thanks, sure love your area and it must be especially beautiful this year. We always make it up for the Memorial Day garage sales and have camped off and on at Lake Hemet for many years. I don't want to get into it but I am flying "under the radar" down here which I know and understand is frowned upon. Please don't hold it against me. Yes multiple days in the teens is not that unusual, didn't want the forum to think I should have bought "roasters" instead of hens. I have been here for 45 years and have seen from 24 degrees to 124. Tried to shop for heat surviving birds, bought one Easter Egger, 2 Buff Opingtons, a Welsummer and a Rhode Island Red.
How many, what kinds and for how long have you been doing it?
