Hi Everyone :) My name is Hayley!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I'm brand new to chickens! I got my first chicks in April. I started with two baby Silkies (Named Morticia and Gabe) and a dark Brahma (Super Hans). Super Hans turned out to be a rooster and in our city, roosters are illegal. Luckily I have a friend with a farm and he has adjusted nicely with his new home.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have two chickens. One Silkie (Morticia) and one Cochin (Named Penny). A couple weeks ago, an animal got into our back yard and killed Gabe. It was devastating, especially for Morticia. The next morning I immediately went to a local feeder store and picked up Penny, and they've become good buddies ever since.

(3) What breeds do you have?
A Silkie and a Cochin! I would LOVE to have more silkies, so anyone in Denver, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH!!!!

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Google! I have so many questions. BackYardChickens.com usually has all the answers.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I'm a jazz singer when I'm not working or in school :)

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm lucky to share a home with my boyfriend in the heart of Denver. I work at a makeup counter during the day and go to esthetician school at night. One day I went to go buy my parent's dog a toy at a place that was selling chicks and I fell in love.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
