hi im new

Day 18 I keep thinking I see movement in one egg my husband said I'm just starring too long and am imagining. This is really hard I wish one would just pip so I know I'm not starring at a bunch of dead eggs.

I know how you feel. The wait can kill you!! And they may be moving. The movement is very delicate at first.

Now when they do pip, don't panic when they just sit there for 24 or more hours! They have poked a hole to breath oxygen and are busy absorbing the last of the yolk and detaching themselves from the inside of the shell. Too many people think because the chick is just sitting there, they need to get in there and dig the baby out! Don't do it! Just go sit on your hands and wait.

Oh, and make sure your humidity is up around 65% or 70%, and all your vents are WIDE open!

Keep us posted. :)

Well I am totally bummed. I misunderstood how to turn the eggs and instead of flipping end to end I turned side to side. Should I give up on these or give them more time. I have read coturnix are so easy to hatch "you can hatch them under a bowl on your back porch" :(

You have been turning them right...you don't turn end to end, you turn side to side. You can take a pencil and draw a line from the big end of the egg to the pointy end of the egg. With the large end slightly tilted up, you would lay the egg with that line in the middle, or looking straight at you. Then when you turn, you would turn that line a little to the right or left...Not completely around, but a 1/4 turn will do.

What day are you on? They can hatch late if your temp was a hair low. I like to go at least 5 days past due date just in case of late hatchers. Quail are tricky to hatch. They seem to be more sensitive to egg shipping, temp, humidity and egg storage before setting than chicken eggs. And with quail, it is VERY important to get your eggs from a good source or breeder. Many of these egg sellers on E-bay and such places are selling eggs from poorly cared for breeding stock. So there can be a lot of troubles with eggs.

What day are you on...what is your temp, your humidity and are all your vents open??

Very excited 3 have pipped that took forever just to get from a crack to a tiny hole...they are resting right now not bad first hatch ever and so far 50%:p

Yay!!! I am happy for you! I hope the rest hatch as well, however a 50% hatch is very good, especially on the first time around!!!

Well I only got a 50% hatch but I learned so much love my little peepers
Your first hatch is always so exciting! But even after many more hatches, it never gets old watching these eggs turn into fuzzy babies.

Good job!
