Oh wow, well 8 yrs. is a pretty good run for a chicken, so personally i would just make her comfortable and not get too invasive or anything...

I agree, I just learned of her plight late this afternoon. She had a rooster that was ten years old and a Bobcat got it in the middle of the day a few months back. She feeds a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables. Her chickens are her babies.

If you post on the "emergencies, diseases, injuries, cures," thread they may be able to assist you. But they do need as much detail as possible about her symptoms, when they started, how long has she been like this, even photos showing how she stands or carries herself can offer clues. Do you know what breed chicken she is? The high producing egg layers often perish due to hormonal issues/ cancer.

I believe they are Rode Island Reds that she has. I just learned about this this afternoon and tonight she tells me this has been going on for three weeks. I'm thinking tumor for sure now. She didn't want me to come over tonight but I could come in the morning after I feed my critters.

I wish i could give more input to help with the issue at hand, but i have not yet experienced this so i dont want to give the wrong advice. I hope ther are helping over in the ER.
