Hiding the eggs in a 3rd mysterious spot...ugh

Well, I found two spots the hens have been laying eggs. First nest had around 18 eggs. The next also had about 15 eggs! I saw one egg being laid, PINK! My mix little hen is now laying, yay!

But...I can't find where the nest is today. There's 3 eggs total in the coop, guess some have opted to lay there again. But there should be several more eggs somewhere! The last two nests were a few feet from each other, but I checked the trash pile they had chosen, nothing.

Not under the felled trees or in the fence brush, where are they!? I need an egg sniffing dog to help me find them....

I had the same problem last year. My grandsons were playing army in the tall grass near the coop and found 2 nests filled with eggs, I wondered why we weren't getting more eggs. tricky little buggers

How do I get them to lay in the coop nests again??


Adding that I went looking for eggs, found 1 more egg in the coop nests, didn't see any outside. But still there are eggs missing. I think I will dry some grass, leaves, needles and re-do their bucket nests. Add some pony walls to make the area darker, that all should help, no?

I would say that will definitely help...we had the same problem last year. Out of 30 chickens, we were only getting about 12 eggs. Drove me nuts

At the time, we just left the coop doors wide open so they could come and go as they needed. But when we decided to shut the doors, and leave just a big enough space for them to walk in/out, every egg was in the nest boxes. Now we get close to 30 eggs a day, give or take. So, instead of getting the eggs whenever I'm outside, we just get them around 5pm. By that time, all have laid. Maybe this will help. It's really frustrating knowing you should have more eggs and not having them. I hope darkening the area works out for you.

I have to keep that big human door open, no windows or anything. So it gets very dusty and bad in there if it's sealed up longer than a night or a few hours longer than that. I'm leaving the eggs in the nests, hope they lay in there.
