They bring pure joy to whoever looks at them. :ya

The only question I have is are they heat tolerant? We live in the South. It gets hot and humid here. I know some breeds don't do well in this kind of weather. They don't look like they are very hardy.

They seem to do fine in in the heat. I live in the California valley and we get up to 115 degrees in the summer, sometimes for weeks. Mine have handled it well. They are the last to start panting out of my flock.

The only odd thing my Rooster does is scream like a little girl when you try to catch him. It was the most pathetic sound I think I have ever heard. Of course as soon as I put him down he immediately started strutting and dancing for the girls. Couldn't let them know that he had been bested. lol

My little Phoenix, now almost a year old, is a fascinating creature. Maybe he doesn`t mean to be entertaining but he is. And he is still somewhat of a teenage klutz.
There are only two hens [another one joining us soon] and he likes them equally well and they like him. However, mating is only on his mind, not on theirs. He succeeds only about one or two times in ten [and he tries], the girls successfully buck him off more often than not.
It is funny.

What I thought was a neurological problem - it looked like Phoenix was tripping over himself - is most likely the shuffle dance I read about here. It`s cute but not really smooth - he`s still working on it.

The funniest thing I`ve seen Phoenix do so far is stumbling backwards into a large water container. He was stunned for a second, then started deliberately walking around in the shallow water.

The hens are funny too, each with a distinct personality.
One is a fierce little huntress, chasing all sorts of bugs, catching them too. She jumps surprisingly high to snap up grasshoppers in midflight.

Good morning I was just wondering what exactly is considered aggressive rooster behavior. I have an EE bantam cockerel Lil Jon & an EE standard cockerel Sanchez Peepers (almost 14weeks old).
Lil Jon is waaaaay more dominant and rooster like. He crows and makes all rooster sounds and he does rooster wing dance. Plus he LOOOOVES mating with my hens who are three times bigger than him.
Anyhow I've been trying to make all my chickens tame. I haven't had either rooster challenge me at all and I handle them often. Buuuut lil Jon will crow while I'm carrying him around and he will mate right in front of me. I keep stopping him to show I'm the dominate one & they are my hens. Now I'm not sure if that's necessary. Do those behaviors count as aggressive ???
