Hissing Goose - Friend or Foe?

Or sneeze that always bring out the hollering in mine. All ganders pretty much get very protective during breeding so just keep that in mind and they will stay that way all through breeding and egg laying and brooding and gosling so pretty much most of late winter into spring and summer if you let them keep their babies, which by the way they are awesome parents both of them papa goose takes his responsibility very serious. They are a joy to watch with their littles.
You have been a huge help, thank you :)

I'll be watchful and careful, I'm not afraid of either of them but I think I take a different approach then I would with a rooster correct?

Rooster, he respects my space...

Mating geese... I have no space

Very true and don't let him intimidate you at all. During breeding I carry the bucket I put spent shaving in and keep it between me and my oldest gander. I also use a bamboo long pole just to keep him at a safe distance. Even had the broom to use to put him at a stand still I use these to place him at a safe distance so he doesn't cross that invisible line where I can get bit. He is going on 9 years old so I have been bit many times by that stinker. lol

I have a younger gander a Toulouse who is 1.5 yrs old and so far he hasn't been near as bold as my Embden gander. During breeding etc it doesn't matter how much they may like us they don't want us close to their mate or goslings.

I'll keep that in mind I have rakes and such at both coops and I'm always carrying a bucket.. Like I said, I'm not worried but now I know why my neighbor has asked if I have been bit in the butt yet

My Embdens hiss like crazy, but the less I play into it, the calmer they get. Some days they're fine and I get no reaction. Could be I wear the wrong color of jacket one day. Heaven forbid I wear anything but my muck boots. The littlest things set them off.

Welocme to BYC @Miss CluckyButt

Mine are only in their first year. I received them July, 2015 at three months old. I'm not sure when they'll start laying, or if they'll use the large dog houses I provide for them. We'll just have to wait and see. They get along with my chickens, even though they chase them every now and then.
