In my never-ending quest to find an easier way to work with poultry fencing, I learned all about "hog rings." Our chicken run is built from piecing together 10' sections of chain link dog kennel. I wanted to attach a shorter layer of cheap poultry fencing to the bottom part of the panels. I found hog rings at Home Depot in the fencing section. There is also a special pair of pliers that is grooved to hold the ring. Load it up, position it so it will eventually circle the wires you want, squish and - done! It's pretty darn fast, too. A bag of 200 rings plus the pliers ran about $18. Here's what it looks like:

Wonderful arent they? http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=hog+ring+pliars There is even a style that you load the rings in and it dispenses rings as you go. Great for those of us who dont have the extra pair of hands to help. Sigh I have the same kind you have. I wish they made a set of pliers to remove them as well. instead of needle nosed pliers and a screwdriver. .... Long story aviary construction that went completely wrong...

By the way I use cable ties to fix fencing or wire into postion and stretch it as I go They are very quick and easy to snip off if you make a mistake. Once I am certain of the fit then I follow through with hog wire clips. Cable ties are excellent for temporary coops or cages and have a good six month life by themselves. http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs...+ties&langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053 I use black but they come in all sorts of colors and Widths.

uses for Cable ties:
1. hanging hoses on the fence to keep them off the ground
3. hanging extension cords
4. keeping seasonal shutters open
5. fastening feed hoppers to the fence.

all temporary applications for sure.

OOh i just saw your web page and your mentioning shade.

All my construction is Dog Kennel panel. If you have a Harbor freight they sell shade cloth with grommets in it the same as Canvas. The last one I bought was ten by twelve green and about 50 percent mesh If you dont have a Harbor freight. they have a website.

http://www.harborfreight.com/catalo...ls=&q=tarp&category=&mode=grid&AttribSel=Tarp Use='Mesh Tarps'&category=&CatPath=All+Products%2F%2F%2F%2FUserSearch%3Dtarp

All you need is some bungee to stretch it over the run.

Hog rings are just that. They are used to put in the nose of hogs as a means of controlling them.

Plus they are the greatest thing for attaching wire to wire. Soooooooooooooo much better than those danged zip ties
