My 1 1/2 year old BO hen is holding her left eye closed. I noticed this this morning, but after I pulled the lid down to peek at the eye she kept it open, so at the time I assumed she'd gotten some dust, etc. in her eye. We've returned home this evening and she is keeping it closed. No runny eyes/nose, no sneezing, just the slightest redness on the inside of the lid (not swollen) and a tiny cloudy spot in the middle of the cornea.
She is one of three hens, in a very large, well ventilated coop, free ranging on one acre of lawn with areas of long grasses and bark piles for about 12-14 hours a day (with the long daylight hours). The other two hens have no symptoms. In fact, our BO hen is behaving very normally herself.
Any suggestions? I'm afraid to try anything but flushing it with saline, I certainly don't want to give her any systemic antibiotics since at this time this doesn't seem to be a systemic problem.
