actually, she will probably take a couple days extra. i had my hens go broody this past summer and many times it took a few extra days from the time they fully took them over.

Love it! Sounds like you have a nice assortment to hatch!

Yes, I tried that nature take it's course thing, and then I lost my only hatching baby of my very first time incubating because it was shrink wrapped and I didn't know.

I'm a helper now, I just feel better knowing that I've given them a chance, whether they are strong enough to make it after that is up to nature. I DO however give them a long time to hatch out and only step in if zipping stops. I've only had to do it once since then when my incubator quit mid hatching and I had to rush chicks to another incubator. It's a personal decision. If you be patient and keep that incubator closed, you should have a very good hatch! We'd like to hear how they are doing so update us!

Yes, when my girls started laying - that was the best hatching out my own eggs for the first time! Congrats!!

You never know, they might start hatching a day early (or a day late) it can be tough to predict, especially if your thermometer is just a bit off and you don't know it. I had mine start hatching the evening before. The 2nd is getting close too!

I have a silkie that is broody (the one in my profile pic) and she's very dedicated to her nest with no eggs. I would love to put eggs under her, and I will this spring. I just think it's too cold right now. I think a mama hen with her chicks is the cutest! Would love to see pics when they hatch!

Well I have a third pip--that makes half! My first pip hasn't moved much... the chick seems to be pecking at the same general area knocking bits of shell off every few hours or so (but verrrrry tiny bits shell). It's not rotating at all but I can shine the flashlight through the air cell end of the egg (I have a Brinsea Mini) and it looks like the chick has plenty of room to move around when I look through the pip. It hasn't slowed down or gotten quiet yet though, so I'm going to keep waiting to see what happens. It's been about 24 hours since it first pipped... I'm starting to get a little nervous. It seems like all the chicks are going to be taking their time!

Sorry about your experience, Shayna. I hope we all have great hatches this time around

Melody-half the eggs in my incubator are from my own pair of seramas. It's so exciting when they're your own! I'm also excited to see what hatches out of the shipped eggs... I have no idea what to expect!

I too have eggs hatching as a Christmas and New Years present to ME!!!!!.. I have some Buff Orpington, EE's and swap eggs.. oohh and about 15 barnyard mix. I also have a batch that I lost the date on.. is due before the Christmas hatch..so I put them on lockdown last night and keeping my fingers crossed..
