Holiday Chicken Blocks Swap---IN THE MAIL!!!

It's all up to you and what you think is best. Trust me we aren't picky at all. My background fabirc is white with tiny red sleighs. Haven't decided yet what colors I'm using for the chickens themselves.

The width of your stitch really depends on how you are adhereing them to the base fabric. If you are using Wonder Under or some sort of heatbonding, you will only need to make small stitches around it. I use a plain ol' kids glue stick and make my stitich a bit wider, because the glue stick is going to wash out on the first washing.

Color of stitching doesn't matter either. I use what I have in the machine until it runs out. I have a quilting book that I got when I first started teaching myself how to quilt, Willowood. It's an applique book. In that book the stitiching is just as important as the fabric pieces and should stand out. Sometimes I just use plain ol' black. It just seems to make the colors POP!

All we ask is that you do your best. We are all different skill levels. Heck I can't do paper piecing. Well, I can do it, but not 2 will come out the same size! That's why I tend to stick with applique. Yours are going to be just fine!

OK, What do you think? I haven't gotten the hang quite yet of making the stitch even, but I'm working on it. And the eyes aren't on yet. I think I may switch to a zigzag stitch. Might be easier with all the curves. Any suggestions or tips? The tail fabric has gold sparkles in it but you can't see them very well.

ETA...I really like the variegated thread too. I bought some, but I must have picked up the wrong kind, because it is stringy and comes apart. It would be hard to thread.

Try using one ot those needle threaders (you know the wire and coin thingy). Embroidery machines have one in a lever gizmo that feeds delicate threads.

AWESOME JOB!! I love them so colorful!! Golden, don't you just love all those curves!!

Tabby I got your 2nd set today!! Love them!!

I still have to finish up my 2nd set of the first chickens. That will be this weekend. Suppose to be really hot, plus it's the end of college baseball and softball season so there are lots of games on. Just about the only sports I really watch. Those and the Little League World Series.!
