HOLIDAY HATCH PARTY... chicks anyone... the party continues....

It always works out that way for me, too.

My first clue for that is usually: Does the chick really like me? Follow me around? Peep for me to come get it should it get lost? Let me pick it up well past the time when it's siblings are aloof? Well then, time to get the blue party favors because it's a boy.

Sad, ain't it?

The other way to tell is if they scream and pitch a stinking fit any time I reach into the pen (It's gonna EAT ME!). Those have always turned out to be boys as well. The girl chicks look at the hand to see if it's got something to eat. They're soooo much more sensible that way!

Our feed store will order chicks for you if you ask, but they don't keep them in the store. If they did, I'd be in such trouble. As it is, I'm pretty bad.

Evonne, your names for the chicks positively killed me.

Gosh I hope you are wrong, cuz that means I have all roos!!!!! Please no!

yeah, me too... lol.... i think i got 6 roo's this time.. they're awfully spazzy...
oohh but one maybe 2 of them are starting to get their daddy's dark leg color....

Actually, I had 15 Ideal EE pullets just like that. I'll never order EEs from them again. I now have 12. They were so flighty that no matter how much brooder space I gave them, they would crush into a corner and kill some one. Finally I pulled them from the brooder and put them in a low traffic area in a pen. They are much better now.
