Holland Mini Lop Babies & Lionhead Lop babies page 5

you can make lionlops using the holland lop lop buck and the 2 lionhead does. There are a lot of breeders out there doing this. I bet you could get some good pett sales out of this mix. Then when you find your buck you can breed pure

I have a lion lop litter due next friday! My very first litter of bunnies! I hope all goes well. I will post pics!

I beg to differ on the color of the Holland. I see light eye rings, dark edges on the ears, and light on the inside of the ears. That's Agouti coloring, and tort has only self genes in the A-series. That makes your Holland a broken fawn. The "dark" on the ears is very pale, and the eyes look pretty light, too. Does this rabbit have any chocolate behind it? If it does, it could be a broken lynx rather than fawn.

kuntrycritters, you are right, the bottom Lionhead is what is sometimes called a "dutch marked" blue-eyed white cross. For a rabbit to be white with blue eyes, it has to have 2 BEW (Vienna) genes. If it only inherited one BEW gene (V) from one parent, and a not-BEW gene from the other (v) it gets markings that look surprisingly like a poorly marked Dutch. This is not the "true" Dutch pattern, it just looks like it. These animals may have blue eyes, brown eyes, or one of each! BEW is a showable color in many breeds, but the dutch marked sport is not.

Since the Lionhead failed at its last showing for acceptance at the ARBA convention, I understand that its breed standard is now up for grabs. I hear there are two "factions," those that want the ears to go up (more Dwarf type) and those that like them lopped. It remains to be seen which will become the official breed standard. If the lop people get their acts together first, it is possible that the "correct," showable Lionhead may be a lop.

KUNTRYCRITTERS, I am getting a Lionhead because of you! I found a breeder here in CO and I can get it next week. I am getting a Blue Eyed Sport like your Black and white one but mine is called Orange and white. The breeder said if I breed this doe to a Blue Eyed White Buck I will get some Blue eyed white babies. She is only 10 weeks old so I hope to find a boy by spring.

THANKS! Ha Ha!
