You mean to tell me this is your first broody in 20 years!!!!

I really lucked out by having one with my first purchase of 6 chickens in March....I put four barred rock eggs under her and today is Day 20 and there were two of them that I saw so far hatch this afternoon. Pictures to share tomorrow!

BTW, Miss Prissy.....My homemade incubator hatched another beautiful barred rock tonight at 8:15 p.m. or there around:

I have heard tails of legendary broody poops !

that is probably what you are smelling and she had to hold it in. unless their is a rotten egg under her.

I am happy to hear about the baby hope another little sister or brother hatches for it.

It seems a little presumptuous of me to even attempt to answer a chicken raising chicken from you but here goes.

I just went through two hatches from broody hens and did mess up on the first one because of a smelly nest. This thread tells all about it.

Wow, I was sure hoping you would get more chicks than 2 hope they are good ones and not both cockerals. Just Likes to Hatch, my neighbor has a bunch of RIR's he has hatched from my eggs and he is sharing chicks with me. He has about 4 RC's and said I can have half. I am going to pick out a few for new season.
I am about done with hatching for this year. After the ones in the bator finish hatching and the broodies get theirs hatched I will wait for the fall again. It is so hot here right now. I may have my big Splash orp hen today. She was on the nest when we left for work this morning and this afternoon she was not out with Blue Boy so I checked the hen house and she was setting on the ground beside the feed pan. I picked her up and she looked woozy. I took her and put her in a cage in a cool area and my Dh put water on her. I just pray she is doing better in the morning.
I have turned them out so they can get under the work house and cooler shady areas but she got ont the nest this morning and must have stayed. It was 97 here today.
I have fans on my silkies. We finally got a little rain this evening and it cooled off. Supposed to be hot in 97 range again tomorrow.
