Janette's eyes widened in surprise. She listened intently to his every word, hardly daring to breath for fear he would stop. It was fascinating, what he was saying, and she could hardly be more interested. When he did stop, she quickly thought of a reply. "Is that what this place, this 'hotel', is for?" She asked. She didn't suspect, though, that the homeless in the home were for his purpose.
"Yes, this place is for my research. I hope you do not take offense to this, but this isn't for the well being of the homeless at all." Thomas told her.
"Before I had even thought about starting a homeless shelter, I knew I of course couldn't test on humans. It was illegal, and would be impossible to keep secret. But by picking out the ones that nobody knows about, nobody cares about, I can be successful in my research and not waste time testing on rabbits and rats that get me nowhere.
People's lives have been taken here, but it has all proved to be worth it. The virus that has taken years for me to create is finally working, normal humans I select are turning into the best creature that has ever existed. More intelligent than anything Earth has been inhabited by. This is what they are now."
Thomas got up from his chair and walked to the back of his office, where there was a locked door. He took out a key from his pocket and unlocked it, opening the door.
"These creatures are very aggressive at the moment, but this one in here is tamed. Just don't be really loud or anything." He assured Janette as the large metal door opened. "Come out." Thomas said, and a tall creature slowly walked out, and stood at the doorway of his enclosure calmly.
The humanoid was taller than Thomas, and muscular. It had extremely pale white/greyish skin, razor sharp teeth, pointed ears, no hair, and long claws on its boney fingers. Despite not being human, it still had clothing, but it was torn up and covered in dirt.
Its eyes looked at the new person, Janette, curiously. It didn't see humans often. But since it wasn't provoked, it didn't attack.
"This is what the money you have donated has gone to. My research, and my new creation. Janette, I am changing the world. And it may seem insane, or horrid, but this is allowing humans to continue living. And if you join me in overcoming the apocalypse, you could make the world what you want." Thomas told her, a slightly insane look in his eyes. But he wasn't on the verge of killing anything, he just waited to see what Janette had to say about it. Though, depending on her reply to this, he may have to kill her later.
