Yes, that is strange. They look normal to me, and my weird tail has been studying necropsy on here and Google for future reference. But the purple comb hints at lack of oxygen...did you check the throat maybe? Just throwing stuff out there

I did not open up the throat. I don't have the specialized tools necessary for the necropsy so I used what I had lying around. The knives I had were not quite sharp enough to get through everything.
However, I did palpate the oesophagus and I did not feel any obstructions in it or the rest of the airway. And what I could see of the respiratory tract did not appear to be irritated or inflamed.

You did do a VERY good job with the tools you had available... As you said, I see no blockage. Might have been a heart attack in an otherwise healthy chicken. Its happened before.

Crop was flat empty. No idea why; he had food.

I assume it is the small intestine with feces in it. Or whichever part of their digestive system is involved with that.

I'm wondering why the rest of it looks full and this one part is deflated like.

The only thing that jumped out at me as being abnormal were the purple comb, the crop being empty. Unless he died early in the morning. And the heart looked a little big to me before it was removed. And the first picture of it in your hand looked darker than it should be.

Ive done a necropsy on a chicken that had a respiratory sickness before. Its mouth wad full of goo, your boys mouth was clean, and the lungs looked whiter than normal.

Your boy looks super healthy! I think it was maybe a heart defect.

I touched it, causing it to deflate like that
I probably messed with more of the body than I should have. I was learning, at least.
