Hello,

I want to make my 2 (soon to be 4) ducks a pond. I'm a poor 18 year old so I can't just buy a pond making kit thing. So I was wondering if anyone could tell or suggest how to make a homemade pond that I could use a pump to clean out and stuff.

Any help and suggestions is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

I would do kiddie pools or a stock tank. To make a pond or pool that will stay clean requires a lot of money. Ducks are very messy and their poop clogs most pumps unless you use something like a sub pump and bio filter.

How big? A pond or pool?

A kiddie pool is great for a pond. You can siphon the water out to clean the pond. Just get an old piece of garden hose lay it in the bottom of the pool with the outlet end at least a couple of inches lower than the bottom of the pool. Then take a garden hose, turn it on and force water backward through the siphon hose into the pool making sure that you keep the end of the hose below the level of the water in the pool. Then, remove the garden hose and watch the water run out.

I also use a 40 gallon stock tank that I once used for a pool for my Lab. I sunk it into the ground leaving about 4-6 inches anove the ground and installed a sink drain in the bottom. I connected a piece of PVC pipe for a drain and installed a ball valve in the pipe. The end of the PVC drain is lower than the bottom of tbe tank. I put a gallon can or a large coffee can around the valve and I made a tool from PVC pipe to open the valve. I also installed a float valve made for stock tanks that Tractor Supply carries. I shut the water off to the float valve, let the tank drain and rinse the tank out. I can then close the valve and turn the water on and I am finished. I have 6 beautiful Mallards, 4 hens and a Drake.
