Homemade V.S. Store Bought

Hope everyone is having a good year! My goals this year are to be more frugal and purge the junk. Getting a good start on both :yesss:

I made some homemade dishwasher tabs using the recipe linked below. I know I can beat my cost of 11 cents per use if I buy citric acid in bulk, but I wanted to try it first to see if it works. So far, so good. We previously used cascade platinum at 26 cents per use if we got a few extra packs in the bucket.

I know this is a specific situation but I'm just showing what is possible.
My workshop was built in 1961 and the builder put the studs at 15 inches apart.
The exterior cladding is falling to pieces; there are big holes in the sides
So we get TONS of pallets at work and we are not allowed to ship out using the large ones.
I was able to set aside the ones that could be cut and still leave at least a 15 inch board.
I spent 5 hours last Saturday doing just that. When I finish siding the outside of my workshop, I'll post an update but here is my haul.
The second picture is showing how I cut the good pieces off of the pallets.

With all the leftover scraps have one of these..

Have enough peeps over and Hot Dogs and Buns for everyone. Also enough beverages to cool the tube. Next day run a magnet thru the ashes to remove all the nails. Your chickens will have a dust bath area they will luv you for. I'm talking from experience.

i just found this out about the fact that all pallets, have letters on them that shows if they have been chemically treated to prevent rotting,there are 2 different kinds of treated pallets the chemically treated ones & other pallets that are heat dried & much safer , i would seriously advise not to use the chemically treated ones to burn or cook food over , no telling what kind of poisoning that could cause...? plus dont burn those chemically treated ones in a wood stove because of the possible dangerous fumes they could emit into your home and the damage to your self & your children...?is probably much worse then smoking cigarettes around them..! so just a heads up about this im not sure what the letters on the heat dried pallets are..? but maybe google it..! good luck...! O and if any one knows what the heat dried pallets letters are , lets us all know...!!! thanks..!

Thanks for the recipe. I tried to see how many tabs that recipe made, and as far as I can see, it makes 25 tabs. So, 25 loads. Am I counting right? I'm definitely going to try this recipe. Dish washing soap (I use the liquid) is my major home cleaning cost, and I would really like to elminiate that by doing home made. Thanks!
 
Went looking for the citric acid to make the dish washing detergent. The product I found that was for canning had a lot of other ingredients in it, including sugar. Checked cleaning supplies and found Lemi Shine. 100% Citric acid and citrus oils. Fairly inexpensive, So... I've got everything needed to make the home made dish washer detergent.
