Homeopathic treatment for dog ear yeast infection?

the yeast infection is the secondary infection. i have a golden who is allergic to everything under the sun. food diets do help with this problem and one of the things that helped us on our farm was to give the dog glutten free food suppliment cod liver oil or salmon oil and i feed mine a pure salmon diet. i agree with the op who said vinegar it definitely helps. regular benadryl also helps with the itching.. try using it twice a day and it will help relieve the itching.. my dog eats blue wilderness either white fish but mostly salmon because i've had the best results with it. the animal version of benadryl is the same for both humans and animals.. you'd be surprised to know that most of the meds vets use are the exact same as the human version. definitely get the ear infection under control and if your dog loves water like mine does try using ear plugs if he will permit it.. it took my dog a while to get used to it.. he also would lick his feet raw.. my vet is my friend and gave me all of this advice, it doesn't hurt having a dad who's a nationally known dog trainer as well :)
Its a secondary to your dog, my dog is a 7 month pup who just finished her heat cycle. She's been fed quality food, salmon, trout, etc, so thats not it. We had a dog like yours, passed away, all yeast ear problems are not the same.

Hi,

I know this thread is over 4 years old now, but I thought let you know how you can get rid of a yeast/fungal infection because a lot of people seem to have the same problem looking at the replies...

The reason why your dog has a yeast infection is because his immune system is compromised. A dog or any other animal should normally be able to throw off an infection quite quickly, however every time your dog received a worming or anti-biotics, or sedation, his intestinal flora got killed off, which is the key to his immune function. So you just need to help him restore his immune system function and give some NATURAL antifungal herbs and he will be able throw off the infection.

SO PLEASE PEOPLE, DON"T EVER SAY THAT THE DOG JUST HAS TO LIVE WITH IT... YOU CAN GIVE YOU RDOG A ITCH FREE LIFE IF YOU HELP HIS IMMUNE SYSTEM

So you will need to get the following things:

1. a probiotic... most ideally get a 'fresh' probiotic, i.e. one that isn't freeze-dried, but comes in a liquid with living microbes. Just google something like animal probiotic fresh living. If you don't find something specific for dogs, just get something for horses or cattle and adjust the dose according to his bodyweight. Give him this for many months (even though the infection will be dealt with much faster than that).

2. Olive Leaf tincture or capsules... this is a strong antifungal, that will kill the yeast infection. Give the dog again the amount appropropriate for his body weight. You can get this online or in a herbal dispensary or health shop. Alternatively you can also use Cat's Claw or a combination of both.

3. Grapefruit Seed or Citrus Seed capsules... this is another potent natural antifungal. Same here, give him a dose that is suitable for his body weight.

4. rub a couple of drops of pure natural Palmarosa essential oil in his ears, this will kill the fungus quickly and reduce itching.

Be aware that he may have a classic fungal 'die-off' reaction, where he might feel and look very crook for a while. If that is the case, just reduce the dose of the olive leaf and grapefruit seed extract until he looks better again. It is actually a good sign that the yeast is dying, but you don't want to overload your dog's body with too fast a die off. He might more itchy for a a few days but it will pass.

The most important thing will be that you maintain his gut flora, so give me probiotics for long periods of time. Change to natural worming agents (especially Diatomaceous Earth). And you must give him probiotics whenever he has anti-biotics, and try to avoid anti-biotics wherever possible
My 7 month old pup hasn't been around long enough to have a compromised immune system. The main reason dogs get yeast in ears has a lot to do whether your dog has floppy ears versus open pointed ears as in floppy ears are closed up and allows moisture to stay, which causes yeast. In some small cases its something else.

To New Egg.

I agree about what we feed our dogs. I buy prime mince once a week. Sure dry food has added vitamins so is ok. I use a mixture of the best dog roll, dog biscuits and fresh meat, but fresh meat must be best. They are ancestors of wolves. Paddy-Girl.
Once long ago humans only hunted for meat and ate only meat, until meat became scarce then they started growing food, plus our blood types changed due to change in diets. Its all in the book eating right for your blood type. So if human evolved, wolves/dog species evolved too. Vegetables are very nutritious for dogs.

New testing for sensitivities was awesome. Go to USpetsensitivities. It's so much easier to treat when you know what your dog is sensitive to.

In response to the VET WHO POSTED. We have a very large German shepherd that has had yeast ear infections for the past 7 years of his life. They were easy to deal with at first. Now Hans does not want us to touch or look at his ears cause they hurt so much. I went and bought the ear wash stuff our vet recommends but that doesn't improve the ears either. We have used a nystatin mixture Ina syringe when it's really bad and that works but it's like going to the rodeo to get the meds in. R

Right now Hans has black yeasty smelling drainage coming from his ears. I have unused a store bought tee tree oil wash from pet co but that he didn't like. I'm going to mix my own tee tree oil in minimal water and try that In his ears. If that does not work then I will be trying the white vinegar treatment. I don't want to put the alcohol in it as he's ears are raw and very sore. I may also try adding some boric acid to the mix because it kills things all roach created so might work on all things yeast created.

I have been putting vagasil and monistat cream on my fingers and just rubbing the out pinna and large area of the ear that I can. I haven't gotten down to the ear canal. It seems to give home some minor relief.

We have done the following change from kibbles to 100% raw diet. Our dogs eat a mix of beef, bison, venison, lab, elk organic beef processed by our local butcher. They're healthy and coats Are beautiful. They improved with in 2 months of starting them on that diet. The yeast infections have been frequent (3-4 x's year) every year. We take him in and a nystatin type thick liquid mixture is drawn up in 3 ml syringes for me to inject into his ears once a week. When we are doing that, and have an army of men around to help hold him down and keep his ears open so I don't jab his ear drum, I can see great improvement. When we are out then it starts to work its way back. I use the ear wash prescribed. Right now Hans ear are so dry, scaly, red, tender to touch, and he won't even let me look at them without whining. Tonight I put a little coconut oil on the outer ears but that seemed to make them very red. I did make a mix of vetercyn and nystatin cream and go oped that up on a round cotton flat and I got it down in his eardrum and then on his upper ears. We'll see how that works for him. I'm so tried of seeing him in pain and shaking his head like hus brains might fall out.

Thanks...concerned gds mom(RN)
Try PawPurity Healing Paw Conditioner to get the ears so they aren’t so painful. Then use their Flea and Tick spray using a washcloth just to wipe the ear gently. Worked on our dog!

This will work, and it's cheap:

Blue Power Ear Wash Recipe:

16 Oz. Isopropyl Alcohol

4 Tablespoons Boric Acid Powder

16 Drops Gentian Violet Solution 1%

Mix together in alcohol bottle and shake well.

Shake this solution every time you use it to mix the Boric Acid Powder.
This very recipe was given to me by vet years ago when I had Komondors. I had forgotten about it. He called it an ear wash. It worked really well but be sure to treat the dog outside. Gentian violet is a dye. You could also try some of the over-the-counter medications meant to treat vaginal yeast infections.
