HOMESCHOOLERS...any one

OOOH! We use Time4Learning!! We love it.

Occasionally though we will run into a situation where they have programmed the 'wrong' answer as the 'correct' answer. But, since DD and I do it together, its no big deal. We just discuss what is right and then give it the answer it needs to allow us to get to the next screen.

We use it for all 4 of her core subjects. She is in the 3rd grade.

And...the price is great!

I have known several home educated people that have gone to college with full scholarships. I believe home schooling CAN allow one to focus on on education rather than all of the extra curricular activities and other distractions of PS. Not that those things are bad, but for some students they can do without them and use their time much more productively. Allowing them to do what is important to them and learn to research on their own in order to obtain an education in the direction that is going to prepare them to reach the goals they have for themselves. Not always, but often when in a group setting less 'work' actually gets done in the same amount of time.

Most of the home schooled students that I know get plenty of socialization through sports, Church or home school co-ops, where they get together with other home schooled students for a group school setting on a regular basis. Whether there is more 'work' and if it is more 'hands on' at an actual school or a home school depends on each individual's needs, the school they attend, how diligent they are and what they are preparing for.

I have seen everything form 'un-schooling' home schools to 'college prep' home schools, some families prefer classical education for 'academic excellence' and others prefer to use no curriculum at all and just 'wing it', while others just 'live life'.

The beauty of this is there really is no right or wrong because we are all individuals and I believe that the Lord will lead each of us in the direction that He would have us go, if we will listen and follow His leading, instead of the masses. I am so thankful that we are free to choose how we want to be educated in America, even if we must be Public Schooled most of us have the resources available to us through public libraries and the internet to 'home school' ourselves after school with hands on activities, chemistry experiments or in whatever direction we want to go.

Lots of people think you can't go to college if you are homeschooled. That is not true. In fact, many colleges are now creating admissions positions particularly to cater towards homeschoolers. Homeschoolers get just as much hard work and socialization, as traditionally schooled kids do (perhaps even more socialization than their traditionally-schooled couterparts). Homeschooling is something that comes with a lot of misconceptions and many people think that all homeschoolers are like "that one family/child I know". Homeschoolers are just as diverse a group as you will find in traditional school families. We all have the same goals, for our children to live happy, full, and successful lives.

I both home-school myself and my younger sister: it's a job my father gave me to do when my sister was young. It's quite the experience but it's good to learn to teach! It also makes us closer as siblings!

We are close to being finished with schooling,I think we have 2 wks or so left. But,we will be only taking a short break and than we will be starting again.I don't want Zach to forget anything and I really don't see the reason to have such a long break anyways,I mean we homeschool that is enough time off.We aren't sitting in school for all those l-o-n-g hours and he has a lot of FREEDOM to play play and play. We have decided that we will just take a couple of weeks off here and there for him and for myself.Any body else planning on schooling the same OR how does your school calendar work????
Love from Indiana;)

I tell people their special needs gifted and they look at me like what? I explain usually don't touch my daughter she's sensitive but since homeschooling she's made leaps and bounds in her anxiety levels and handling of stress and stimuli.band Bub is learning the tricks to dealing with dyslexia.
