I’ve kept chickens, ducks, Coturnix quail, & geese, for eggs; dairy goats; Angora rabbits; a couple of barn cats, and a big garden and small orchard.

I haven’t had chickens for a while; I’m just starting again with a few; more to be added in spring, with quail, ducks, & more.

I’m raising a variety of breeds for a colorful basket, working everything together on a permaculture homestead with a supplemental income.

My homestead is set up as a response, & in a tiny way, a solution, to climate catastrophe and the larger ecological crisis, now suddenly far worse. With the vast majority of people in the world wanting more action on climate (more than 80%), the questions hanging over everything in our lives now are:

How much damage will rulers do to our attempts to prevent global collapse?
Will they ever allow solutions or give up power?
What should we make of our lives now, knowing that they never will?

My insistence on making these homestead changes happen now is partly a retreat & regrouping, but while it’s a necessary part of what we need to do, it's also grossly insufficient, only a comfortable? comforting? base from which to venture out to do what we really need to do.

I admire efforts towards self sufficiency and sustainability. I am always happiest milling about our property and garnering its bounty.

I hope all your preparations and planning and acquiring your new chickens and quail next spring go well!

Thanks for joining and welcome to BackYard Chickens!
