Honey Bees in house... THEY'RE BACK!! See #61

Ok, so, here's the deal..... The house we are moving to in a few weeks has always had honey bees living in the walls (or so we thought)..... While reroofing the house my stepdad pulled out the small nest by the front of the house and put new trim up. On the side of the house was another spot that they were coming and going from... we assumed that they were down into the walls and would be impossible to remove.

I had called bee keepers in the past about having them removed humanely and relocated and everyone said nope... either leave them or exterminate them. So we left them.

Well..... today we were putting in a chandelier in the dining room and while in the narrow side attic upstairs making the spot for the electrical box, we found out where the bees had their combs! It was in the next section over... about 7 feet of honeycomb!!!

Well, we cut the boards out JUST over the combs and pulled them all out. There must be 100 lbs of honey.... about a third of which appears to be from this year and is fresh and sweet clover honey!

Update..... the hive is dead

No bees for me. But lots of wax and honey

Also.... what is the best way to get the honey out of the comb?? I'm going to google it... but I know we have some expert bee folk here

i so cant wait for pics...

and from everything that i have seen on the discovery channel the honey needs to be spun out of the comb but that was using a man made comb...i am wondering if you let it sit over a container would it drain off the comb?...but I do see honey, comb in all in containers in the grocery store...intresting to find out

I saw a deal on the news once about some people who had a hive of bees in their wall. They said the buzzing/humming noise from them was very annoying.

To remove the honey from wild comb. just cut the caps(top) off the comb. Strain the honey. To get all the honey mash the comb and strain the honey.


To get the bees out, if you place a beehive body on the ground,and run a plastic pipe from the old entry to top of the hive. The Queen may move to the new hive and start brood. Come spring the bees in the house should swarm.

Dang... it says that the bees should still be there

There were lots of dead bees underneath the combs

Maybe they did not make it thorugh this winter??? Do they migrate? I am getting mixed answers from Google

Here are some pics..... Maybe I should put some of it back???? Do they hatch out new every spring? Geeesh... maybe I'll just have a bee free rafter

Looks like the hive is dead, sorry honey bees cant take the cold if a hive is open in cold weather all bees will die.

Honey bees keep their hive warm all winter.
