Hello all! So I am starting to build a hoop style coop/run. This is not where they will be sleeping. I do have a closed up typical style hen house. This will be attached to the hen house as a run. I want it as secure as possible. I am using cattle panels with 1/2in hardware cloth over them. My question is should I fasten the hardware cloth on "top" of the 2x4 or should I bring it down the "side" of the 2x4? It will have predator fencing around the entire bottom coming out about 2 feet. I ask because I see people attach it in so many diffeent ways and I want to do what is going to be most secure. I hope I explained myself well enough! Lol thank u all in advance.

This is what I mean by side. And the top would be the thinner piece. (This is not me pictured. Just found online to give a visual)

The wire that you are stapling is not hardware cloth it is regular poultry wire. I would attach it to the sides of the 2x4 as it would be harder to tear off.

That is not me. That is a picture I found online. I was trying to just give a visual. Guess I should have stated that. Thanks for the reply.

Would stapling it on the inside of the wood be better then either of this options?
I would. Makes it more difficult for predators if they can't access the edges of the wire. Make it difficult enough & they'll find a different diner.

You can also take a 1x3 board and secure it to the framing with the wire in between it and the 2x4.

if you stabilize the wire with a few fence staples and follow with the 1x3 it saves your fingers, time and is extremely secure. No worrying about staples pulling out over time.
