I would find an all black flock lacking in some respects but I truly love black chickens. Black hens intermingling with different colors are very interesting. Black is as different as the light it reflects. Beetle green and purple are quite beautiful.

I was considering them more because their meat and skin should be dark.

Me too. I have plenty of black chickens of various breeds. I was hoping for crests, maybe beards or silky feathers like large silkies. These are a mix so I guess anything can happen. It will be an adventure, but dark (melanistic) skin was the main draw.

Does anyone have problems with the males? I'm torn between getting some or not (was definately before I found out only males get color)

I had 2 cockerels and 2 pullets. The cockerels was stunning. And both pretty docile

They're really not similar apart that the females are black and have dark skin. Look like different stance, possible crests and possibly different combs.

So I didn't put that very well. Mostly thinking they would be much easier to get and much more affordable.

Personally, I don't care what the males look like as I am not interested in Roosters. But I know other people have different goals.
