Hoover Hatchery Mix. What do I have here?

Hi! I ordered ISA brown/colored egg layer mix of chicks from TSC (Hoovers Hatchery). Definitely have 6 ISA browns (holy eggs Batman!) Curious (okay… obsessed) as to what these other cuties might be… they are definitely one of the following list:

Americana, Cuckoo Maran, French Black Cooper Maran, Midnight Majesty Maran, Olive Egger, Sapphire Olive Egger, Prairie Bluebell Egger, and Starlight Green Egger.

Chicks 1 and 2 definitely have some slight feathering down the legs!

Side note… very impressed that these 10 chicks did so well shipping in winter!

1 and 2 are Mystic Onyx. 4 could be a few different breeds/mixes. Likely an Egger or Welsummer. 3 is a weird one. It looks just like a Frost White Legbar chick and it's quite the distinct look. I suppose it could be an Egger as well, but it has the triangle on the head and eyeliner of a Legbar and I don't typically see this down in Eggers. Hoover's doesn't carry them but I have seen them stock birds that aren't on their website. Here is a pic of Frost White Legbars! @Overo Mare, isn't this weird?

So I suspect you are right with 4, I think she’s probably what they call their “olive Egger”. They have one line of legbar x welsummer to make their olive Egger. 1 and 2 shouldn’t be mystic onyx though, as they should only be breeds from that list in my post. Marans or some kind of eggers.

3 is most likely a Starlight green egger.

4 is probably another Starlight green egger. Could be Americana (Easter egger) or an olive egger, but I think those options are less likely since it looks to have a single comb.

I disagree with the Marans. Your first chick has five toes. This is a trait of very few breeds and mixes. I can guarantee it's a Mystic Onyx. It could definitely be in the brown layer assortment. The second theoretically could be a Marans but it's beak appears fibro. I can guarantee the first is a Mystic Onyx and I suspect the second is as well but time will tell

I bet it is too. Probably a Starlight Green Egger because it obviously has some white going on which rules out a lot. The weird thing is, Frost White Legbars are recessive white and have this down, while Starlight Green Eggers from what I've seen only are dominant. I believe one copy of dominant white would also give this chick down. If by some some chance, this chick grows up to be pure white, crested, and with yellow legs, I do believe it would be a Legbar. Two copies of dominant white would have led to different chick down so I think it has to have one. One copy on wildtype would not dilute it to completely white. Regardless, I would love an update as soon as it feathers out!

Hmmm!! They definitely should NOT be Mystic Onyx… but maybe Hoover messed up!

Edited to add: I just checked her and she has light skin… not dark like the onyx should be. Interesting. Super excited to watch her feather out.
