horror movies too scary or gross and you didn't like

I tend to love the low budget ones just because of how awful they tend to be. My friends and I used to have a series of drinking games just for this purpose. Of course, the awfulness isn't always limited to low budget.

Like when we watched Army of Darkness, you had to take a shot every time Ash got punched in the face. If you were still standing after the graveyard, you won. For sci-fi channel movies, it's a shot for every gratuitous CGI event. It's sad when you have to admit a guy in a gorilla suit would be more believable.

The usual one is to take a shot every time there is a continuity error, another where you take a shot each time something just can't happen (such as the 'there simply isn't that much blood in a human body rule' and the 'no way a 125lb woman can pick up a struggling 200lb man, get him on top of a car, and put a noose around his neck rule', and my personal favorite 'a 22 does NOT throw the target back 30' rule'). We often combine this with a game where we make a list of the characters in the order you predict they will die and if you win, you get to choose the songs everyone else performs on the karaoke machine.

Remakes of the classics are almost universally bad. Offhand I can't think of an exception.

I am trying to think of an exeption and can't. The Hills Have Eyes was a remake also. I have got the orginal one and it is corny but good.

I thought about it more and the Haunting is almost an exception to the rule. 'Almost' because it suffers from the thing that kills a lot of horror movies for me. The Darwin rule for horror movie characters: If you are really going be that dumb, the human race is probably better off for you getting eaten by a monster.

I should pull out my video camera and write a script for 'Attack of the Zombie Chickens'.

Wolf Creek...is that from Austrailia or somewhere like that..? I have not watched it alll the way through, just too disturbing. I have memories of pit bull type dogs chained up in a cave and I think that's where I stopped watching.

My sons and I like to pretend that we are on an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and stop the movie every few seconds to make fun of it.

Is that still on? I remember watching that about 10 years ago.

All of them. We don't watch "horror" movies in my house.

No, but my sons have seen old episodes so they understand the concept.

By the way, am I the only one who has gotten so annoyed at the stupidity of a character that I was rooting for that one person to die?

I remember one girl on the movie Wrong Turn whose whining just annoyed me and I wanted them to hurry and kill her off. Any character that goes into the private property because the door is unlocked earns my annoyance also.

Maybe we should start a thread about stupid things that characters in horror movies do.

About 90% of the time in horror movies I find myself rooting for the villain rather than the victims. A couple Saw movies were included in that, but I ended up just finding the whole concept ridiculous and didn't even finish the last one I tried to watch.

I admit it.

I cried when Godzilla bit it.

The classic one, not the horrible remake. Though I did still root for the monster in the horrible remake. Any creature that wants to eat reporters is alright in my book.

That's funny. DH and I are the ones watching movies like that, that go....."Some one kill her already!" Like in that one movie with the gigantic bugs in the fog. I one lady that was trying to turn everyone against the good guys. When she got shot, my DH and I were like ..."YES! ABOUT TIME!"

That was a stupid movie.
