Well, as the horse shopping/rescue goes. Maka gets his first salon day. He was a very good boy. Tail took an hour to clean up.

For a stud who has never been worked and at the age of 10+ he has been out standing!

Iluna has clean up well and even after getting her tail chewed off by another mare she still is everyone's favorite.

This weekend we went back to pick up two more studs from Maka's bloodline. The first (4yo) was fairly easy which surprised us all because he was pretty wound up every time we went to go visit. Plus he was now king, with Maka being gone and having scared off the 2yo. stud to another pasture. Some photos of tropical country while looking for the 2yo. None of catching or loading, sorry was busy :p

Thank goodness we did not find 2yo in the areas of top photos. WE did not want to leave it was TRULY BEAUTIFUL... plus chasing him out of that open area would have been harder, we were on foot. We found the 2yo across from the reservoir hanging with a group of 3 pretty much abandoned mares and one yearling. After reinforcing this rundown catch pen, R caught the lead mare who was friendly and would halter and led her to catch pen where 2yo followed. He loaded the easiest of all 5 that we have caught from this area but did give the trailer some good dents on his way home. He spent the night in trailer as it was dark and unsafe to unload him in a new place. He exited like a gentleman in the morning. Tomorrow is vet day. A very exciting day for these horses. There will be one, maybe two hernia surgeries and 3 castrations. A pregnancy check and of course vacs. Should be a exciting day. Will get some photos to share when I can.

Thinking about squeezing one more in... actually 1.5. What do you think gang? She is probably pregnant, probably has a bad foot but she could be nice with some handling. (she has been wearing that halter for who knows how long:rant) Hubby is thinking about her baby. We have done all we can do for this herd... but maybe we can do a little bit more... Hmmmm.

The owner said we can take his fencing if we take it down and out. Total crap job but we are going to do it, and then reinforce the fence line for this area shown below. That will give us a few more acres of a rough dry country, hot, remote old cattle country, not great for a horse but the grass is good most of the year. A fantastic 'Green Panic' plus reliable water source.

Hi everyone. I've loved horses all my life. I dream of owning a buckskin mustang one day.

I have a question for those who do already own horses, I have a question. Are males or females better tempered for new riders?
Thanks all.
Btw, you guys can call me Mocha if you want to shorten it
Hi Mocha @MochaDuck ,
I thought you would enjoy seeing this 100% mustang buckskin. His mom is a stamped Oklahoma BLM and was pregnant when she came to Hawaii. He is said to be a proud

Hidalgo descendant. Photos do not do him justice. He is also looking a little ignored, people mom has been traveling a lot (who he adores) and her kids have taken over the duties basically stopping and dropping feed. I think they may be a little nervous around him. :(

Btw, I didn't realize this earlier, but this horse looks almost exactly like one of my favorite model horses. Do you know that horse's name?

We call him Cloud (his name is Chinook) He is one handsome bugger but is very skittish. His owner is older and has quit riding him or never really did much. He has gone through three trainers but needs the work to be kept up and she can't. He is a gelding, so that whole gelding mare thing... I think you should look at as many horses as you can. You will fall in love and then all of the troubles, if any, will be worth it. Many people say get a well ridden horse about 12+ old, they are bullet proof... but just trying to find one that is good and affordable, that can be hard. You never know what has happened to a horse in the past and sometimes they can bring that with them. I highly recommend finding a kind trainer (horse or people) with qualities you really admire. They always know where the good horses are and will try to find one that fits you and your personality. It would be wise to have a couple sessions with you and your horse so the trainer can tell you how to correct any fears or bad behavior either you or your horse has. You will develop the confidence and smarts faster and enjoy more sooner.

Thank you :). Thankfully I'm still in touch with the woman who taugh me most of what I know about riding, so she may be able to help. I really hope I can get a horse one day. Even if it's not a buckskin mustang  (my second pick is a gypsy vanner, which is probably one of the most expensive horses ever )
