Have been out with my horse Mr most of the evening due to colic, got the vet out and didn't hear the news that I wanted to hear. Mr is ok as of now we have gotten him past this bout of colic but I got some really bad news that has me ready to commit extreme hurt to someone.

This is going to be long but I want to give everyone some background on the situation. Mr is my pal and has been since he was a weanling which is when I bought him, I raised him, broke him to ride well it really wasn't any breaking to it just got on him one day and started riding, he's an absolute sweetheart and anyone even small kids can just wallow all over him and he doesn't care and he is a stallion. Well when Mr was 3 years old I had to sell all of my horses I didn't have a choice, but I made sure he went to a great home with the agreement that when and if they ever sold him I was to get first chance at him if I was better and could take him back. Well when he was 5 years old the guy came to me one day and told me that he was ready to sell Mr, I was better health wise and told him I would take him back and we agreed on the price which was exactly what he paid me for him. I was so happy I was getting my buddy back that I told a couple of what I thought was my best friends, well to my surprise one of the supposedly good friends went to the guy that night and offered him $1000 more money to sell him Mr and he did. Well that didn't set very well with me since this so called friend didn't take care of his horses as he should and the other guy and I had an agreement and he just screwed me for me money.

Well anyway this friend got him and he and I had some really bad words over the situation and I told him if he ever harmed Mr in any way or didn't take care off him then there would be trouble. I checked on Mr quite often making sure he was being fed and taken care of and while he was much thinner than he had ever been he still wasn't as bad as some of his other horses. Well in 2003 I moved over 2 hrs away and didn't get to see him for 3 years and when I did see him again he looked horrible well the guy was gone so I told his wife to tell him to get in touch with me I wanted Mr back. He never did, so I set about calling all of the animal shelters and anyone I could think of and NO ONE would help me do anything, they all said that if he had a source of water, shade and food they couldn't do anything and get this they said the source of water could be just a mud hole and the food could be weeds and they couldn't touch him.

Well in 2007 I get a call from this guy asking if I wanted Mr? I of course told him yes and he told me that him and wife where divorcing and to come get him and we would set a price later well I didn't fall for that and made him give me a price right then. He did and I went and looked at Mr and lets just say I cried for hours afterward. I called the guy and told him what I would give him in between telling him just what kind of %o& I thought he was, well he accepted what I offered and then he wouldn't even meet me to get his money had me leave it at a local store (smart move on his part) But anyway I immediately went and got my trailer and went back to get him and took him straight to the vet. The vet said that if he survived the night I would be lucky, well I stayed up all night that night babying him and watching over him and he made it. After this I had problems with Thrush, Colic and he just had lots of problems that the vet said was a direct result of the negligence that he had suffered.

Here are some pics of him when I picked him up.

Now wouldn't that make you want to hurt someone that did any animal that way? Well back to my story. I have gotten Mr back to a very good weight and he is doing great except for one thing. He has coliced several times since I got him back and the episodes keep getting closer and closer. There have been no feed changes or anything else different. Now he has coliced 3 times in the past 90 days 2 kinda bad. Well bad enough I got the vet out and 1 time that I handled on my own, and yes I know what to do for horses that are showing signs of colic as I have had horses for over 20 years. Well tonight the vet basically told me that Mr has basically what amounts to clogged pockets in his intestines and that eventually he is going to colic and there will be nothing that we can do to save him. Both vets that have saw him have said the same thing all of this is stemming back to the guy that starved him and neglected him so badly. Oh and Mr is only 12 years old.

Sorry this was so long but I had to get it out of my system and I know my BYC friends do care. I am so ready to hunt this guy down, tie him up and starve him like he did my horse.

Here are some pics taken back in the summer.

What a sweet horse - and what a horrible story of what's he's been through. You are a great person for getting him back and trying to nurse him back to health. I know that once they colic...it's easier for them to colic again. Since he has intestinal issues already...it's not a good prognosis. What are you going to do now?

Thanks and he is the sweetest horse you would ever see and especially for a stallion. I never wanted to sell him in the first place but my health pretty much demanded it. And yes thats what the vet said that it would be easier for him to colic and that is why I am very careful about what he gets to eat and even the time of day he gets it. I have no idea what I am going to do, I can't stand the thought of loosing my horse but most definately will not let him suffer, so I guess when the time comes and the vet tells me there's nothing more we can do I will have to say goodbye to him. At least I will know I made his last few years as good as his first 3.

I know what you mean I knew something was really wrong for him to colic so many times lately especially since from the time I bought him as a weanling until I sold him he never had a sick day. And starving his is only part of what I want to do to this guy right now. I am a very laidback easygoing person and wouldn't hurt a thing but I told my partner tonight I was ready to do serious bodily harm to someone.

Oh what a gorgeous baby he is. Yes I understand completely! I would have blown a gasket long ago. Just love Mr and give him the best care you can until the time comes that you cannot help him any further. When he goes down you will know it, there will be no doubt, you will then show him how much you love him. Looking at that face, he has an old soul and he knows who loves him. That man deserves a butt whoppin that years and disease could not remove.

Meanwhile, has the vet prescribed a special science diet food for Mr? What are they recommending? Make sure you watch carefully any "gassy" food and treats. Bless his heart, he just makes me want to hug him and squeeze him.

Thanks, he is a baby thats for sure, I blew a big gasket when I got him but the guy wouldn't meet me face to face or he wouldn't toted the beating of his life. I am doing all that both myself and the vet can do for him, whatever he recommends is exactly what will be done. And yes he knows I love him deeply and he never forgot me the whole time he was with that guy. Everytime I would visit him he would stand for the longest with his head over my shoulder just leaning into me. The day that I got him back he was lying down in the pasture when I went to look at him and he struggled to get up finally made it and I got to him about the time he got to his feet and he wobbled to me and over my shoulder his head went. I promised him right then he would be coming home with me come heck or high water and he would never want for anything again, to this day when I go to the pasture he has to have his hug just for a few moments before I can even begin feeding the birds.

The vet hasn't prescribed any special diet just really good hay and he even said I could give him some low percentage sweet feed but I am calling an equine specialist tomorrow to see if there is anything at all that I can or should be feeding him or doing for him.

Oh yes..please do call a specialist. There are special feeds for these issues. It is more common in geriatric years but they make a food that helps. They are not cures but they sure help. If you are like me (and you seem to be), it would be worth every penny to buy a special food to make him more comfy so he can enjoy his life now. He is so precious. His face and eyes remind me of my old stallion "Max" , just a sweet and nothing but a gentleman...big baby. At over 16h, he thought he was a pocket pet! They bring such joy to our lives for sure. I hate to see such a beautiful animal lose years off his life because of an idiot that should be whipped with a buggy whip.

This is such a sad story but you should be so proud of the way Mr looks now and cherish the time you have with him. You have done your very best for him and he is in the best place for however long he has left. Good luck and I hope you are able to keep him well for a lot longer. We will cross our fingers for Mr - he is such a handsome boy.

So sorry--Those 2 guys both did you very wrong. And the way the 2nd guy neglected Mr.!
You did all you could know to do, definitely. And you are really helping Mr. now. Bless you, as you are blessing him.
