Have been out with my horse Mr most of the evening due to colic, got the vet out and didn't hear the news that I wanted to hear. Mr is ok as of now we have gotten him past this bout of colic but I got some really bad news that has me ready to commit extreme hurt to someone.
This is going to be long but I want to give everyone some background on the situation. Mr is my pal and has been since he was a weanling which is when I bought him, I raised him, broke him to ride well it really wasn't any breaking to it just got on him one day and started riding, he's an absolute sweetheart and anyone even small kids can just wallow all over him and he doesn't care and he is a stallion. Well when Mr was 3 years old I had to sell all of my horses I didn't have a choice, but I made sure he went to a great home with the agreement that when and if they ever sold him I was to get first chance at him if I was better and could take him back. Well when he was 5 years old the guy came to me one day and told me that he was ready to sell Mr, I was better health wise and told him I would take him back and we agreed on the price which was exactly what he paid me for him. I was so happy I was getting my buddy back that I told a couple of what I thought was my best friends, well to my surprise one of the supposedly good friends went to the guy that night and offered him $1000 more money to sell him Mr and he did. Well that didn't set very well with me since this so called friend didn't take care of his horses as he should and the other guy and I had an agreement and he just screwed me for me money.
Well anyway this friend got him and he and I had some really bad words over the situation and I told him if he ever harmed Mr in any way or didn't take care off him then there would be trouble. I checked on Mr quite often making sure he was being fed and taken care of and while he was much thinner than he had ever been he still wasn't as bad as some of his other horses. Well in 2003 I moved over 2 hrs away and didn't get to see him for 3 years and when I did see him again he looked horrible well the guy was gone so I told his wife to tell him to get in touch with me I wanted Mr back. He never did, so I set about calling all of the animal shelters and anyone I could think of and NO ONE would help me do anything, they all said that if he had a source of water, shade and food they couldn't do anything and get this they said the source of water could be just a mud hole and the food could be weeds and they couldn't touch him.
Well in 2007 I get a call from this guy asking if I wanted Mr? I of course told him yes and he told me that him and wife where divorcing and to come get him and we would set a price later well I didn't fall for that and made him give me a price right then. He did and I went and looked at Mr and lets just say I cried for hours afterward. I called the guy and told him what I would give him in between telling him just what kind of %o& I thought he was, well he accepted what I offered and then he wouldn't even meet me to get his money had me leave it at a local store (smart move on his part) But anyway I immediately went and got my trailer and went back to get him and took him straight to the vet. The vet said that if he survived the night I would be lucky, well I stayed up all night that night babying him and watching over him and he made it. After this I had problems with Thrush, Colic and he just had lots of problems that the vet said was a direct result of the negligence that he had suffered.
Here are some pics of him when I picked him up.
Now wouldn't that make you want to hurt someone that did any animal that way? Well back to my story. I have gotten Mr back to a very good weight and he is doing great except for one thing. He has coliced several times since I got him back and the episodes keep getting closer and closer. There have been no feed changes or anything else different. Now he has coliced 3 times in the past 90 days 2 kinda bad. Well bad enough I got the vet out and 1 time that I handled on my own, and yes I know what to do for horses that are showing signs of colic as I have had horses for over 20 years. Well tonight the vet basically told me that Mr has basically what amounts to clogged pockets in his intestines and that eventually he is going to colic and there will be nothing that we can do to save him. Both vets that have saw him have said the same thing all of this is stemming back to the guy that starved him and neglected him so badly. Oh and Mr is only 12 years old.
Sorry this was so long but I had to get it out of my system and I know my BYC friends do care. I am so ready to hunt this guy down, tie him up and starve him like he did my horse.
Here are some pics taken back in the summer.
