Horseback Riders?

I have 6 horses. I'm a late bloomer with horse ownership. I got my first one 9 yrs ago at the age of 38. I bought an 18 yo Appaloosa gelding. He's 27 now and going strong. Way more go than whoa. I still won't put a complete novice on him. I now have five Appaloosas and DH's horse, a QH/Percheron cross that just turned 22. In addition to my old guy, I have an almost 7 yo stud, a 6 yo rescue, a 6 yo mare, and an almost 3 yo stud (soon to be gelding...really soon

) I LOVE my Appaloosas! Way too smart for the own good sometimes...but they keep me on my toes and there's never a dull moment with them.

Especially with my mare (my first one). She's been a learning experience...she's not mean, she is such a people horse, but she has an opinion about things.

I mostly trail ride but will be competing in Versatility Ranch horse with my mare. I've also done some cutting/sorting and did a polo clinic a few years back. That was a blast. I'd like to learn break away roping and a long time dream is to learn Dressage.

I have 6 horses, 2 Clydesdale brood mares, 1 Shire brood mare, one retired Clyde mare that I use for Dressage and riding lessons, a drum horse gelding who will be trained this year and a newly born Shire/ Friesian Sport horse. We mainly go trail riding but try to keep the emphasis on Dressage. Our property is 14 acres of grass pasture and we house our horses in an old dairy barn. How did you all get into horses? I have been riding horses since a young age back in Germany and rejuvinated the passion when I came over to the US.

Dont have any horses of my own but i work at a barn in exchange for riding time on there horses.

Horses are pretty much my life- they are my obsession, my business, my passion. We currently stand 2 AQHA stallions, and are planning for 2 foals next spring.

Hay is up to almost 24.00 a bale out here. Ouch. I was told the problem is hay is bring shipped out of the country. So sadly this is hurting many horse owners right now. I love my horses so chickens has been helping me cover the cost of their high feed bill.

Ouch!!! We are $16.95 a bale.... I know it is AWFUL!! Yaaa my chickens help too for breakfast & I even feed some to my dogs! We can't eat them as fast as they lay! LOL
