Horses slaughtered in FL?

I dont know..but i know they ate it alot in the depression times..and even for a long time after..I think its illegal now to sell it for humans? Maybe?

It depends on where you are. Some places it's legal to kill and eat your own animals, but illegal to sell it to others for human consumption. Kind of like the whole raw milk deal, you can do it to your own animals but can't sell it to others and whatnot.

During the depression, they ate anything. I remember hearing stories where they wasted nothing, eating the peels to fruit. Our great great grandfather watched us peel an orange or grapefruit and then would proceed to tell us that during the depression you ate the WHOLE thing, peel, seeds, and all.

Call me crazy, but that might be a good thing. It's not done humainely in Mexico and Canada, so if these people know how to slaughter the horses humainely, then I'm with it.

*sigh* as a native Floridian who grew up in a race horse family....this is nothing new. It also has not a danged thing to do with the meat/black market food bologna the reporters are yapping about.

Do note that it is in "SOUTH" Florida. The horses are being killed for ritual reasons. And it has been going on for the last 30 years. It was not splashed all over the newspapers like it is being splashed now. The authorities can stop it...as soon as they want a constitutional fight...too bad they are all gutless and will not start that war.

We all knew to watch our horses at night when we were in certain parts of Broward and Dade county...and that was 30 years ago. Someone stayed in the barn all night and they were not left our in paddocks or pastures. these "victims" should have known better if they there for more than a month.

Very sad. What is worse is the media's twist on this as an "economic" issue.

Umm, some cultures DO eat dogs and cats. Are you saying their culture is wrong?

Honestly, I don't have a problem with anyone eating any creature, so long as it's not MY creature.

Not saying their culture is wrong most of the animals are strays on the streets and scared of people (some are stolen from people when they were pets) but I have seen things that make me cry. I saw a beautiful German Shepard who was butchered for meat and fur, they didn't want to "damage" the precious fur and so they had the dog alive when they started skinning it, now whenever I see a German Shepard these images of this pop up in my head. AND most of this fur is sold over seas as "rabbit" or "mink" fur when its really just a stray dog. DON'T buy fur. McDonalds gets their meat from over seas so I don't eat there.

This story is more about the criminals than the horses. We are overrun with low life scum with no morals. Face it, this is nothing other than another property crime. Too bad most places will not allow you to shoot thieves

Ah, but the problem is, this horse was stolen from his owners. It would be the equivalent of someone stealing your pet pig, cow, or chicken, or even dog to eat it. Can you imagine your pet dissapearing only to find it's carved carcass?

This particular horse was stolen...that is the part that really bites. I am not against humanly putting an animal out of it's misery or humanly slughtering it, but stealing someone's pet just aint cool.

It is. It is also a delicacy in France.

I do not have an issue with slaughtering horses for eating, even though it's illegal to do so in the US.

I also hope they catch whoever is doing the slaughtering in FL, because they are stealing people's pets, companions, and property.

This country is shipping a lot of our horses to France. Bo Dereck, the movie actress, is trying to get them to stop.

I don't believe in eating horse meat, unless you are starving, anymore than eating a dog or cat.

Oh I see, so they stole it from their owner. I agree with you on that, but when there is an unwanted horse, the US should be allowed to slaughter horses with people who know what they're doing.
