horsey people, heres a nice fix for you

Agreed, ME TOO. I no longer imprint my newborns. It makes their mammas nervous, which gives new babies mixed signals. I prefer my horses to grow up as horses, not PETS. Then, when momma is ready, she always brings them around and they are curious and not a bit scared. I don't do the fighting to lead thing either, just lead mamma and baby always follows. After they are weaned, they just naturally lead, like they have know always. Once in a while I get a wild one, but rarely. We or mamma teach babies how to act around humans, or so I think. The gentlest, tamest animal on our farm is a wild adopted donkey. She never learned to be scared of humans I guess. Or maybe someone just worked with her a lot, but doubt it. HenZ

I am a big believer in imprinting

I have had exceptional results with imprinting foals. Makes training MUCH easier and it has never made a mare nervous. Maybe if you have a broodmare that isn't handled much...IDK...The difference in horses I have worked that weren't handled from birth and the ones that were imprinted on is just beyond words. I would never do it any other way now that I have seen for myself what imprinting can do. Just my 2 cents on that LOL

I too have worked with 100's of horses both imprinted and not.
I will NEVER imprint or buy an imprinted foal again. Unluckily I still am required to deal with them.
I have bought and broke all types up to untouched 4 year olds. (ran them and their dams into an open stock). The untouched horses are easier and safer to deal with then the imprinted foals.

Why? because they act like horses not cats and dogs....and we know what to expect from a horse that knows he is a horse....JMO
