I thought the roos crest was supose to be like that, pointy feathered and spikey. I think skittles mottleing is nicer then gigi's. I've been doing a little reading here and there about what they should and should not look like, I am no where near knowledgeable on the subject, but remember reading that having whole feathers that are white is a breed look "no no", but besides what I read about "standards" I think skittles mottleing is just more asthetically pleasing. Do you know how much they weigh? The site link didn't have a weight on their birds. I'm assuming it is a Canadian location? I'm wanting to breed for size (large) wouldn't you know my one suspected male is small :/ but he's still young maybe he'll catch up.

They are definitely heavier then my standard polish, that much I know. Bigger than my Easter Eggers the same age for sure. I have not weighed them - I should. Gigi has a lot of pin feathers in his crest. I think he still has some maturing to do.

Here is Skittles a couple of weeks ago from the front. She has a huge crest. The parent stock had a lot less white. maybe that will come with age? In the past few weeks his mottling has gotten a lot less white. They seem to be constantly growing new feathers at this age. They just hit 20 weeks, so they are not quite 5 months old yet.

I think your 'girl' is a girl. Looks like Skittles at that age.

You and I have the same taste in poultry! Can't wait to cross my NN to the Houdans Most likely Gigi over the NN hens, because I don't want to waste Skittles' eggs on crosses. She is my only Houdan pullet.

Your 'boy' looks like a boy based on his nares. Those are mighty big for a girl!

I am going to breed my boy and girl together, and put my boy w/ the girl hooda crosses so hopefully get some mottleing in my next gen of naked hoodas. It will be interesting to see if these first generation of hooda's will get any white after their first molt. Everything I've read said houdans get more white after thier first molt. I just really hope my boy catches up in size he is still small compared w/ the female, and it can't be age they are the same age.

his creast is fine and there body type is suppused to be the size of dorkings which is bigger then polish and they should have even mottling so they do have a little 2 much white where did u get them

This girl is about 15 weeks in the picture. Less white now. Got them from Active Life Farms in Nova Scotia, Canada - Kevin Fitch. She is a good size bigger than my standard polish and she is not even fully mature. I'll see if I can find a picture...

Comparison to my GIANT cochin hen. She is one big girl.

yes i would love a boy i just have the one girl now... im going to go pick up more eggs from the UofA the 25th of august and ill be coming back home on the interstate so maybe i could get him then???

Hello Houdan community,

I just wanted to introduce you to two chickens that have been enjoying my home as much as I have been enjoying them.
Picked them up as part of an experiment and had no idea that they would turn out to be like this, let alone anything special.
I got pretty lucky and as far as I can tell with my limited experience with other chickens and just looking at them I have a nice pair. They get along great as you can see in the pictures.
My hope is to breed them and manage a little flock, as well as have some very fine eggs. (Dont tell them but there's going to be a few chicken dinners too.)

EDIT: Had to add a picture of our youngest dog meeting the chicks.

He's really good around them and hasnt done anything except for try their food a couple times. I think he liikes it.
When they dust bathe on his favorite towel he does wish he was small enough to join in.
