House Sparrows in Coop

Good Morning, Y'all! We have a problem this winter that I am vexed about solving. The house sparrows--the flies of the avian world--have discovered how to get in our coop. This has not happened in four years AND we're having an extremely MILD winter! We keep food and clean water in our coop because we also have ducks--which as many know destroy all things water and food! SO, now that they have discovered clean water and food in the coop, the sparrows are making it their go-to place. I don't like to use the word "hate" but I HATE house sparrows.

Does anyone out there have a solution to our problem? I actually closed the coop door after the girls had finish laying for the day yesterday. It's not my optimum solution, but I'm really at a loss of what else to do! Thank you for suggestions!

I made this simple scarecrow. It moves in the wind and the sparrows stay away. It has a clothes hanger inside. Took 5 minutes to make, and it really works. I reposition it every day.

Treadle feeder could help.....so might a pet strip door.

We would but we live in the City. I am in total agreement. Can't stand these literal pests.

I have the same problem. They roost on the side of the water bowl and poop in it all day They also poop in the coop and eat tons of food.

I may try that scarecrow; I too have those miserable house wrens out there!
Treadle feeders won't work for my young bantams, so I don't have those. Shooting them seem like overkill (pardon the pun!) and difficult to do safely at my coop. Sparrow traps? Then what?

It sounds heartless, but ide suggest flushing them out and shooting them with a field and game load. With all the work we go through to prevent predators, I wouldn't want to risk the flock catching a disease from a couple of free loaders.

Get a plastic owl and set it on top of your coop.... might work.
