Hi Everyone! My husband is in the process of designing and building our duck/chicken coops. We have 2 ducklings and 4 chicks. We originally were going to have two separate coops, but we're short on space and time so last night my husband came up with what he thinks is a great idea and I just need some feedback.

He is thinking of building an 8 long by 4 foot deep coop and splitting it between the two-so each would have a 4x4 16 sq ft area as well as an approx 4x10 run attached (one for each side). Two questions 1) Is this big enough for each set? I'm not sure about spacing requirements. I mean I've seen the minimum but also read that the minimum is too small. 2) Any reason not to house them in the same space as long as they are separated? They can free range when we are out with them-but I'm unsure if they can do it otherwise due to the resident hawk population, although a lot of people in our area do let them. Thanks for any input!
