Day 44:

First, I must admit, I vowed to myself that I will not keep trying to "check" to see if my eggs are moving. The excitement and anxiety over the idea of having this hatch turn out with an emu is killing me (the last hatch where he didn't make it all the way out depressed the daylights out of me). I vowed after my last "test" that I will let the bator do its job and just see what happens.

So... my brother comes by today as I am filling up the water in the bator. He hasn't seen the eggs before, so he was oogling them in amazement. THEN, he switched point up to point down (as in North to South) and he said, "Um, is the egg supposed to be sloshy like this?" I asked what in the world he was talking about. He turned the egg again and this time I could hear the goo on the inside.

1 egg has a friend wiggling. I have 1 egg that sunk when I did the float test (I have no idea what that even means). I have one (the egg above) that sloshes both physically and you can hear. I have one that I am afraid to touch at all for fear of somehow killing it. If I get 1 out of 4, I will still be ecstatic, I just will feel horrible for it being a lone emu

At this point, I have a feeling that I know the answer, but need to hear it from someone else. Do I have a really soft boiled emu egg?

um...you said he switched "point up to point down? You haven't been incubating them POINT UP HAVE YOU? the large rounded side is suppose to be up if you are going to do it that way..otherwise keep EMU eggs on their side, neither point up.

Oh yes, the eggs are on their side in my cabinet bator on the autoturner. He just picked up the egg and felt it slosh on the inside. After that moment of panic in my head, we quickly put the eggs back on their sides in the bator.

I waited so many weeks for these 4 eggs. I have been so careful with this set after our last one died during hatch. All I want is an emu to love.... or four! Now I am terrified I won't have any hatch
