Hova Bator genesis 1588 temp question

Here's my experience with the 1588. Went to bed at midnight with 19/44 hatched, and dozens more unzipping and pipped. Woke up at 3. It was strangely silent. Went to check on them, and none were moving. The thermometer said 67. I opened it up, and they were all cooked. I removed ~30 chicks to look for survivors and replaced the lid. I looked at the thermometer again and it said 105. 3 of the survivors are twitching and laying on their back in the brooder, likely with brain damage and one bird may make it.

IF the thermostat had not malfunctioned, I would have had a 90% hatch rate. I don't know if I got a defective one, but ~40 healthy beautiful birds were pointlessly cooked alive in a Styrofoam coffin because of this thermostat. I am waiting to hear back from GFQ to see how they respond. All I know, is if I get a replacement, I don't want one from the same lot of components used to manufacture mine. My serial # is 0713. I'd be curious to hear if other people who are having problems with these thermostats have a serial number close to mine. Maybe a defective batch of components?

I to have a 1588 incubator I purchased this winter, and just had a bad experience with it. I thought it was probably me but after reading the posts I am beginning to wonder. I set 40 eggs for a preschool project (4 year olds) and only had 19  hatch. The display seemed to work as stated in previous post, temp set 100 degrees, maintained 99.5 to 99.7 every time I checked, and humidity around 50 most time. Set the incubator in a back room where the temp. remained around 62-65 degrees. I did have to take the incubator back to school on day 20, (10 min. drive) Those that hatched seem to be doing fine, but several that didn't seemed to be fully developed when I checked later at 24 days but were dead in the shell. One actually hatched on day 20. When I candled found 8 bad. I thought I had worried it to much but know I wonder. Also I thought things would happen in a 8-12 hour time period as everything was controlled. I really like the concept of the 1588 and the large viewing window for school projects. But now I wonder!!
is this your first hatch? For a first hatch one should expect about 50% hatch rate, which is just about 19 out of 40.

Its not the hatch rate I'm complaining about. Its the kill rate. 30 made it out if the shell and another 9 were pipped or unzipping. 4 lethargic scorched concentration camp survivors are in my brooder tremoring on their backs, likely from brain damage. Thats not an incubator, thats a chick Auschwitz.

oh my gosh, that's just terrible!

I have two 1588's and Im sad to say Ive started having trouble with them this spring. One thermostat has died completely. The other has started running low..Like a dummy thinking it was still working right I only checked it a couple of times in the first week. Running perfect. Had to use the therms in other areas. hatch turned out bad, really bad for me. About 50%(after detached air cells and no-fertile)..Chalked it up to shipped eggs..Next batch, 7 make it in and only three hatch..Thermostat is steadily dropping in temp now only running about 97° as of today...Though to be fair these are 6 years old and have been used a LOT..My old 1583 with wafer is still chugging right along..

GFQ sent new me a new replacement lid promptly via FedEx. 47 eggs set.

I've had the same temp issues as everyone else. The temp maxes out at 103 on the machine, but interior temp is only at 97-99. I had 1/40 chicks hatch. I ordered a new wafer, then realized it didn't need that. So, I will call the place I ordered from, but if they don't come through, what part should I be trying to replace? And if I decide to simply use this as a brooder, what temp shod I have it at?

I just called and they sent me directions on how to calibrate the incubator. This allows the temp to go higher and reset where 100.0 is using an external thermometer
