How About a Jumbo Co Op

I take it that most of those posting on this thread has never seen the Giant Browns that Gus and Barbra Rhodes of Bear Bayou Quail Farm used to raise? By 8 weeks the females would bump 16 oz all day long, Last I heard some guy named Troy was still breeding these in Tx

I hope so, but how do we find him?

My latest batch of quail are not at 14oz yet.

I checked out that guy's website, and it'd be fun if he is legit. Under his White Quail he has this description:

"Now available, a recently developed Gourmet White Meat Coturnix Quail. They were genetically selected for fast growth, wide breast and white meat. These Quail weigh 10oz. in 6 weeks and dress out 73%. When cooked the taste is compared to Bobwhite meat. It has a more juicy and flavorful texture. Dr. Fred Thornberry of the Poultry Science Dept. at Texas A & M University developed this new bird. He says this is the meat bird of the future."

That's the only mention of weights (yes, I saw the bit about white meat, too

They were very legit when they were in the quail business, They've been out of business about 7 years now. they even had some go up to 24 oz, Wildlife Harvest Magazine had an artical about them with pics

Are you sure it wasn't the butlers that got up to 24 oz? (They had them, too)

I guess we're back to looking for 'some guy named Troy was still breeding these in Tx'

No..The Giant Browns would get bigger than the Butlers, I had all of their varieties at one time

So, what did you feed them? I need to break through a plateau.
I think I know how and I think they are ready. But it would be nice to know and not guess.

edited to add, that I may have already broken through the plateau, but would still be nice to know what they were feed.

12 - 4 = 8 available.
